I know there are some sweet looking modded machines lurking here. I found this little nugget of info today that may help some of you experiencing data probs.

I highly doubt that long, round IDE cables are from the "dark side" :) I like rounded cables...they are sexy and chicks dig them.

Hmm. I haven't "rounded" any cables myself. I've heard a number of stories of data corruption though.

No worries here, just fine on RAID0, internal zip, floppy and CD ROM/Burner - all rounded, and like Phil suggests, you get more sex too ;)

Mine are folded like a W along the length and then cable tied. I have never had any problems with data.

my ata 100 primise card was eating hard drives on me. i went through like 2 ibm drives in a row, in about a month. I e-mailed them about the problem, and they said "Be sure you are using a cable of the proper length." and i was like...well im using the one you gave me ;). Anyway...ended up just bein a screwed up bios on it...after i updated it...its been good ever scince. Hmm!

Bah! Just more proof that the hardware is only as good as the software... and no, don't ask me to put an 80GB drive on my BP6... there's a reason why i only put 40giggers in it! :p :D

I reviewed some here (http://www.ocprices.com/index.php?command=view&GroupID=2&ID=667). I have been using them without issue at ATA100 for several months :) I wouldn't go for cables that are longer than the IDE spec though. They do make a small difference IF you have a badly organised case.
