Engines rarely "fall off". I am hazarding a guess, either engine failure OR a bomb. Either way, this is not good and hundreds of people have died... ]

Apparently the engines are desinged to fall off if they are damaged badly (major explosion etc).
Aircraft are desigened to be able to fly with only one engine, but since this aircraft lost one engine at take off (time of most stress on engines) I don't think it would have been able to cope with it, quicky losing height before hitting the ground.
Just heard that apparently the second engine fell off as well, just before the main body hit the ground.
What caused the engines to 'break off' I am not sure about, I think that is it likely to be mechanical, not terrorist.
Althouh, the last service of the plane was yesterday, an opotinuty for sabotage? I am not sure.
