Made up a quick page for everyones total power. I'll tweak it a little over the next few days. Just wanted to get the info inputed. If you don't see your name on the list e-mail me or post it here. I also need memory and comp info. If you think something else should be inputed or have some ideas for the page, LMK
Send me your info (medic@mmcable.com)
Total power info (http://home.mmcable.com/babybeard/totalpower.htm)

I was thinking about that, but thought that the people with the lowest power would be at the bottom, and they would think that they are less important. Which they are not. I chose alphabetical to aviod this situation. This is just a rough draft and it will change many times before I'm complete.

That's one nifty table, Medic. I think it would also be useful to know the number of machines each member is running.
btw, my one (measly) computer has 512MB of RAM.

Yea, the number of cpu's would be cool too. There are quite a few of us that run SMP.
BTW looks good!

Just got an amd 333 to toss in the stats. Total processors 4. total ram 512 + I have one wild card. I don't have direct control on. (My-son-in-laws 1 gig with 256 ram) He may or may not be running it much. Last couple weeks I may have seen 1 or 2 extra wu's turned in. Need to have a serious talk to him.;)

Here is my speed junk:
T-Bird 1200
1,5 gb ram (pc133)
OS: Me (looking forward to XP)
I have tryed to OC it but at 1333, the (I suspect) cooling paste on my Fan started to smell bad, really burned. But the MB senser only showed 64 degrees celcius!?!............I am still shaking from the I qoute "Is it me or is something burning?".......then one of my friends said "yes"......
I am new here but I am already having a blast reading the posts on the board........:D
Now I will sneak around the board some more, see ya :D

What are you using to cool that? T-birds run hot normally, but when u try to OC them they really need some high power cooling. 64 C is REALLY hot. Even though AMD says they can run hotter than that and not hurt the CPU, I think they are crazy. The cooler the better. If you want some tips on cooling post a message in the cooling forum, I'm sure you'll have about 20 people give you their opinion.:D I'll get you on the power page within a couple days. Wow you have more RAM then you have speed. Ha Wow!!!!! That be mucho memory!! I'm jealous. How many spots do you have for ram and what size are the chips? OOC

Hi Medic193,
I use some cheap fan for the cooling, and I know that 64 C is really hot but as you said yourself AMD says it can be much hotter.....And I had just read the AMD spec's so I thought I would try to OC it.....
And now to your question: I have 3 ram slots so the size of the chips is Obvious:D It is a abit KT7A raid MB.....
And I will follow your advise and make a post in the cooling forum, seems I need some major help on this OC thingy:rolleyes:

If you smell burning, you probably should shut off your computer
I would definitely get better cooling on that mofo before you try to overclock it again.
T-birds become unstable after about the 50-55 degree range. I've experienced it myself. I have a Glacier 2 on my T-bird 1.2 and it gets up to 55 when it is overclocked to 1400, and is not stable (when I am using the system, it will occasionally lock up. It works fine when I leave it genoming unattended though, go figure  )

Well when you get the thing cooled down some more you should be able to OC easily with an Abit board. Myself on the other hand have had nothing but bad luck with Abit. I've owned two Abit boards and refuse to buy another one. Funny thing is when I build a system for someone else and use an Abit board they work perfectly. Guess it's just my house.:D Good luck getting it cooled down. I use 2 delta fans and an SK6 HS. It's loud as hell but cools quite nicely.:D
fury
27th July 2001, 16:54
That's funny, I've had bad luck with my KT7a as well... my KT7 is fine, but not the KT7a...
It doesn't go any FSB higher than 133. At all. PERIOD. Where others see FSBs up to 150-155, I am lucky even 133 works.
I know my hard drive, modem, and Geforce2 are fine with busses up to 37 PCI and 74 AGP, because I had my bus at 112 once. So my board is defective or something.
the fan on my Glacier 2 is pretty loud too, they (OCZ) claim it's quieter than a Delta but still pushes about as much air (36CFM)
It's hard to cool it when the house doesn't often get cooler than about 30 degrees
viperdog
27th July 2001, 17:08
OK probably showing my stupidity...
Fury.. when I first setup my IWill KK266r it to only showed FSB to 133..I thought "well this is a jip", then realized I needed to set the 100/133 FSB jumper...dah! Well once that was set to 133 the bios then let me play all the way up to 165 (?) and 133 became the lowest setting I could pick.....
So does your board have a jumper that needs to be set to 133 range?
Soryy if I'm totally off base..

hehe, my T-bird 1200@1333 has run stable at 64c celcius.....Yes you read right 64c! Beside the burning smell it was stable:confused:
And yes I turned it of as soon as I could confirm where the smell came from :)
As I wrote I belive it was the "chewing gum" on the cooler that couldent take the "presure".......I think that my MB (Abit KT7A-Raid) cant show higher temps then 64c.....Because it was 64c when I clocked it to 1300, and was still 64c at 1333:confused:
Can anyone confirm this?
And now the unclocked temp is 61c :( Again leading my suspicion to the "chewing gum" being fried....
So my speed junk is just sitting there doing nothing.....I dont dare to run it at those temps for to long......So I only have a P200mmx crunching Genome at the moment:( while I wait for my new cooler.....But I have gotten alittle cooled feet about the cooler I have ordered......It may not be very good, check my post at the overclocked and cooled forum.....And give me you opinion...Remember that I am a cpu cooler newbie:D

OK Alchemist and myself have been putting in a lot of time with the total combined power of our team and all of our personal info. I need everyone to follow the supplied links in this message and my sig to see if what we have for you is correct. I have a lot of everyones personal info and that will be added soon once we build all of your personal pages. I've added an average machine to the page but it's kind of skewed because I''m missing data on a lot of people.
We need this info from people that have not responded
Total MHZ, RAM and CPU's(speed and type), Name, Home location, ICQ number, E-mail address if you want, links to your system pics if you have them uploaded, occupation, website address if you have one.
We need everyones help in getting this complete. So if you haven't sent us your info, get off your lazy butts and send me an E-mail. :D :p :D
This is a rough draft. The server is slow, but it will be corrected once we get them all complete.

I know you'll hate me 'cause I'm always adding junk and in a couple cases, needed to take a machine or two down for other projects...
Here's the latest along with expected-soon:
Total Mhz: 18.973Ghz RAM: 9216
CPUs: 22
See http://www.interactdevices.com/tgc/index.html
Planned for very soon: Another 850EB, another 900 AMD, another two 1.333 AMD. And whatever other odd hardware I find.
I plan to add an additional two 1.333 every two weeks, as well. (That's an additional 70Ghz/year assuming that processor speed improvements stop now. ;) )
Look out, Pel, I'm gunning for YOU! :D :p

I hardly seem to get the AMDs running for 5hrs before g@h (linux version) dies with a bad work unit. I'm switching only the AMDs back to .98, see if that helps. For the record, .99 under Linux is ROCK solid on the Intel's. (I guess I make a good QA bed... [grin] I feel like Noah, two of everything...):D :D :D

Medic and Alchemist, GREAT JOB!!!! :D The personal info and Total Power pages are excellent. Only one problem: seeing where I rank on the total GHz scorecard is starting to provoke me! :D I think I might have to scrape something together, and/or really push to overclocking a bit. (Had the 1GHz clocked to 1587MHz = 138FSB x 11.5 during the winter when I could pull super cold outside air into the case. Awww winter will be here soon!)

Be sure and save them. Sooner or later there'll be a linux client that lets you complete the last two sequences. Or e-mail them to somebody with Win9x 0.99 which does complete "corrupt" work units.

I moved them over to intel/linux boxes to finish them. They seem happier, so I'm sending the stack trace diffs on both to Stephan. I can actually see (and even fix the assembler, if I were inclined) the bug...

I just noticed jodie picked lara croft as her avatar. Very interesting! Did anyone go see this movie. Just curious if it was any good. I know Angelina Jolie (sp?) is kind of on the weird side. I heard she carries her husbands blood around in her necklace. Now that is just plain weird.

It's kind an interesting story... The video game char has always been my hero since the day she came on the scene. Never really told anyone.
The movie came out and five seperate people said "Oh my god! It's JODIE CROFT!" after having seen it... I saw it, loved every instant of it, and was tremendously flattered, because she exactly lived up to the video game character expectations (atleast that I had)
Sooo, it's kinda stuck - and an ideal avatar for me.

I put the 1 there to represent that each computer had the following power and memory. If I put the avg number of computers it wouldn't make any sense. I could put that somewhere else. Let me think it over.

Hey Jodie,
Perhaps your crashing is an OS/MB/Client problem. Meaning the three don't work well together.
My Tbird/A7V133's crash less than my PIII/CUSL2 does.
Seeing you buy so much hardware all the time, why not try a different board?

Thanks, Dustin, but it's a Linux with AMD with .99 issue, and fairly well-known at this point. The Intel/Linux/.99 is rock solid. The AMD/Linux/.99 is decidedly less so...:( Hopefully it's getting resolved.... I've sent stack traces, samples, proc snapshots, etc to Stephan. In fact, I could actually patch my binaries and solve the problem, it's fairly obvious...

At max-draw, I have 140amps (8Ax18 machines) of power supply, or 7200 watts of DC power. Or - 20 amps shy of everything I have available in my inside computer room. As soon as the rennovation is done on the garage computer room (larger AC going in), I'll move it out there with several hundred amps and rackmount everything... I *really* need a life.

Jodie, when I said go-4-it I didn’t think you would literary :rolleyes:hehehe, but hey just glad were on the same team, :D the way we/your going we will blow by them pirates before they know wot hit em.
I await your arrival in the top part of the chart and will just watch in ore as you fly by.......
You have the POWER therefore you are the QUEEN of the Collective, us drones await your next command........:D :D :D

As one of the little people I get a vicarious charge out of your quest for power. You go, girl. When you start consistently hitting red we'll add another category. What color would you like?:D
I've been wondering.... Wouldn't it be more efficient to invest in a used mainframe and figure out a way to run the client on it? Or is my ignorance showing?

The funny thing is....... Jodie is awaiting the release of a client to run on her Vaxxen. No joke, heh Jodie....:D
Suggestion: Everone head over Here (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/genomeathome/polls) and vote for Dec Alpha and Solaris clients.... I have, many days ago ! :D

{Massive Blush!}
And thank you - if we get Solaris and Alpha clients both, I'll be in the red every day easily... [grin]

Purple, definitely purple... Or we could go Silver for 7500 and Purple for 10k... :D
I have two super computers - 20 Processor Sparc Ultra-Enterprise machines, two mainframes (Vax 11/784) that are hardly worth talking about, and a bunch of super-workstations (Alpha) that I could bring online at will, 24/7. Someone add COSIX to the list for me, would you? I've the chance to pick up a Cray YMP at auction. Think it will go pretty cheap...:D :D
Thanks for all the attention all! But it's undue - my daily output so far hasn't equaled Pelligrini... HE'S King.

Right.... If the Cray gets a client, I'm out! You Win!
Whats the point crunching on an abacus if you have Cray!

The Cray's aren't all THAT fast... Massive bandwidth to memory and devices that has never been duplicated, but for raw processing power - they're old-tech. The two 20 processor sparcs are probably about as fast. Throw in the Vaxxen and Alphas and certainly we're talking about the same kind of speed... They're not the pinnacle they once were...

Now the Cray T3E, on the other hand, THERE'S a machine to drool over. I don't see them come up very often, and you pay a premium for them. They're 512 processor, 106.8 gigaflops. THAT's what I'd like to have...
I've run on Cray networks before where the YMP was a terminal to the T3D. (The YMP is an 8 processor vector super computer. 2.5 gigaflops, peak.)
A bunch of Compaq EV6's is what I'm waiting to find...
Looking at comparison charts -
Five DEC Alpha 8400/6-575 will outrun a Cray YMP-J90 in pure computational power (I have four)
But it would take 21 of them to outrun a Fujitsu VPP-300 (which I've never used)
Two HP PA-9000/V2200 will outrun the YMP-J90...
etc.

Now, if I remeber rightly, liquid nitrogen cooled are the crays.... I wonder what a Tbird will do when cooled sub-zero..... Back latter!:D

Naw, the old 2 series were nitrogen cooled. The YMP and T3D/T3E are deskside super computers. And tremendously faster...

They are 4 PIII 700's, and I assume they have 128M RAM (can't really have less running W2K). They aren't running 24/7, and I don't have a clue as to the uptime.:(
So that's 10G, 2048M RAM, 11CPU'sB]
Hi Medic,
You still haven't updated my stats. Although I can't give you deffinate figures, you can tell from my week/day totals that I have alot more power then 7.2Mhz, and I didn't even figure in the P41.7.

Thanks Medic, it's very difficult to get thing's totaled for you. It's like pulling teeth to get any information on those computers (I hope you're reading this Deb). For future reference, any part time computers, I'll figure in at 50% uptime.
