I got gnome sensors and it needs a kernel version 2.2.1 and i have 2.4.something . Gnome sensors works ok with the new kernel, but it requires an older version of lm_sensors that need the older kernel. ARGH! I don't wanna install KDE just to run Khealth.

What were you guys talkin' about tick-a-stats and lm_sensors? Do I need a script? Or a plugin for tick-a-stats?

HELP! ME! Or I might go on a posting frenzy and gloop up the server

Whoa! No need for a posting frenzy. :)
Tic-a-stat is a log file monitoring applet that you can add to your toolbar. I had to write a quick/dirty bash script that runs the sensors prog and writes the output to a logfile. The script runs from crontab every min. Then I use Tic-a-stat to monitor the logfile. You can see my screenshot with the tic-a-stat in the upper right corner displaying the cpu temp here (http://www.geocities.com/kirek2112/screen.html).(137k)
The only problem I have is that I have no way to shrink the logfile without blowing tic-a-stat out of the water, unless I do it manually and restart The Tic-a-stat applet. dnar posted a script on the tic-a-stat thread to write the logfiles but I've been a little busy lately and haven't had a chance to play with it. If you want to see my script, I'll post it... Or if you need help setting things up let me know I'll try to help.

Hope this helps!

Is it easy to setup? I'm really bad at makefiles and compiling stuff. I guess i can do simple scripts...........

Try your luck with these:

gSensor (http://digilander.iol.it/robang/gsensor/)

ProcMeter (http://www.gedanken.demon.co.uk/procmeter3/)

SensorSweep (http://coverfire.com/sensor_sweep_applet/)

SensorsServer (http://voyager2.htmlplanet.com/sensors_srvr.html)

klm (http://www.brendy.addr.com/linux/klm/klm_home.html)

Yoinkers, tried sensor sweep and make spat a whole bunch of sh!znit on the console ending in error 1 :(

I ran the configure script, i typed in make, it spat out more schit and ended with error 2, then make install

gsensors says i don't have lm-sensors installed, which i do. I think it wants an older version that i can't install because older version need older kernel version....

ARGH!

Still gotta try graph_lm_sensors
which means i gotta get mysql and perl working....

LM_Sensors DOES WORK!

# Start posting frenzy code

DANGIT! i can't use klm cuz KDE is evil and I don't wanna install fer one app...... GNOME gooood

make doesn't like me.

every version of gsensors says i don't have lm-sensors installed........ ARGH!

I did get lm_sensors and perl installed. thats a plus.

Jesus loves me and you too.

there's people stealin' my copyrighted tunes. and they're lil lil prunes!

Sorry to inflicty all that on you Mech....... See why I use hand-carved scripts to do this...... Big change woth sensors between 2.2.x and 2.4.x kernels have left the Client app's begind......

There is one more that you might like, I just can't find it. I blew it off my systems months ago and just can't find the URL for it.... I swear it was called "tkrelim" or something like that.

I GOT PROCMETER3 WORKING! Buts its in celcius and I prefer Farenheight :( Any workarounds for that?

dnar

Did you get the source code???? If so, it will be a simple change. I could handle that if you can't.

Found it: GKrellM (http://web.wt.net/~billw/gkrellm/gkrellm.html)

OK, I'll try GKrell

Ummm, me no good with code :( Would ya mind telling me where the changes need to be made for C to F?

dnar - you da linux man! You've helped me out more in this week than anyone has in a year!

Give GKrillM a go first (I think this will blow your mind)......

Thanx m8, glad to help out.

Ok, I've installed it (RPMs are my friend) and can't find the actual program :)

/usr/share/gkrellm/ has only 2 directories, plugins and themes and those are empty too. Do I need to grab a lm_sensors plugin or something?

dnar

I can't remeber, I have not got it anymore. Open GnoRPM and query the RPM, it will show you were the executable is stored....

It is most likely /usr/local/bin

[prepare for mind funk]

MechCD
16th July 2001, 11:39
Ok, its not in /usr/local/bin :) I gotta log out and log back in as root to check the rpm :(

What time do ya go to work? When do ya get home?

dnar
16th July 2001, 11:41
No ya dont!!!!! Start gnoRPM and click "Unprevelliged".

You only need to be root to install RPM's!!!!!!!!! You can query them as normal user.

It is now 2245 here in Australia. I work from 0730 to 1600 elsewere, then 1630 to 2000 I play dad while wifey works at the hospital. 2000 to 0200 is "play time".

0200 to 0630 is sleep time.

Ok, military times. ARGH! More to think about.

Ok its in usr/bin/ (where I should have checked anyway)

and it works and it looks all pretty :) Gotta check to see if its Celcius or Farenheight

dnar

It does BOTH. It does some amazing stuff all right. You can have a mailbox monitor, the little envelope spins when mail arrives, click on it to open your mail client. CPU / Memory scolling graphs, TCP/IP graphs, partition useage graphs, tons of customisation and rardy rardy............ Happy?

MechCD

I have CPU and Proc turned on, and custom settings for sensors, but they aren't showing up anywhere :( I'll figure it out hopefully

dnar

They are there, they appear ontop of the CPU utilisation graph and one other ??? from memory.......

MechCD

Got it. I had to label the readings correctly. Woohoo! Its more accurate than in windows. I wonder if its a driver issue in windows? It was off by a lot before........... Windows baaaaad

dnar
16th July 2001, 12:21
Ah that's right. You have to label them a specific string. You could spend all nite playing with that dang thing.

I stopped using it because of several things.

1. I like to see both "Nice" and "User" cpu use, when you set it to include Nice cpu use, you dont see user use.

2. When you set it to update graphs real fast, like 100mS, it eats too much CPU..... Bad for G@H.

3. At 1600x1200 it is too small.

4. I like simple things, give me the numbers man!

Not a bad little progy though huh?

MechCD

Its great! I only use it to check temps, cpu use, mem load and swap load. I have the update set to a slower (larger)value
