OK. I just changed cases. Installed everything correctly, booted up and... at the POST I get and 'Error 40' something about floppy disk(s). It won't let me past. I can boot into Windows by forcing the BIOS to ignore diskette errors, and when I get to Windows the floppy drive works fine.

I also build a second machine, and I get the same error when no floppy drive in installed. (I can disable diskette errors as well).

The problem seems to be that the BIOS is not seeing the floppy drive. It is not mobo specific, so it shouldn't matter (but it is Soyo Dragon+ if you wanna know).

Doesn't matter loads, I can use the computer fine, just wondering what is casuing it.

Is the floppy cable the right way round?

The floppy cable could be the wrong way or something else could be wrong.. What is the LED on the floppy drive doing when you apply power to it?

If the floppy LED is lite all the time it's the wrong way around. Also if the floppy is a little older you might have missed a couple of pins on the end. Both of these errors I have commited myself (I wondered why it showed up as a removable floppy drive).

The really strange thing is that the floppy drive acutally works... It acts like a normal drive (lights on at right time etc)... It is like the BIOS isn't seeing it (I get the same error if I remove it completely... and on my other computer if I remove the floppy drive).

I'm guessing you swapped out the cable..... could the floppy be extra floppy and broken?

Nevermind helps if I re-read the first post
