With all the talk about upgrading computers, several people mentioned "almost having enough" parts for another box. We should put together a webpage where we could list our unused pieces parts, in case it's just what someone needs to get another box crunching for the team...
I'm talking donations, trading, or maybe just paying for shipping.
Just an idea. :)

Not a bad one....I'm sure the wife would be only TOO happy to get rid of all this stuff lying around that i just CAN'T throw out (you know the drill - may come in handy some day)
I have so much 72pin RAM is ridiculous.

This is a good idea. Not sure how we would go about it, but I like the idea! I have a number of working parts I'd be willing to swap for needed parts.
A couple late model BX boards, Original KT133 Athlon board...

Definitely a good idea. I was thinking about something like this before, but in more of a buy/sell/trade fashion. Of course, older unused parts are still good for giveaways to team members. :)
I'll see what I have laying around tonight and put a list up here.

Ok, who wanta a blistering fast brand new server cpu?
16mhz
AMD 386
2mb fast page RAM
needs a powersupply, video card, harddrive
75mhz Pentium 1 @90mhz
16mb EDO SImms
needs videocard and powersupply, harddrive
I would like to hang on to my BX slot 1 board and pop in a cheap celeron. I can get 3mb of ram cheap, and i think i could scrounge around for another powersupply and hardrive

I wished I could find the link, these uni students somewere in the states setup "spud server", a mobo & NIC run from a potatoe battery! They burnt Linux, Web server and Web pages into the BIOS roms........ Yep, it was not fast but you could browse that sucker!!!!!! One of the pages on this site was an overclocked board that ran in the freezer!!!!!! I cant remember the speed they got - it was before the days that I realised overclocking was a viable and reliable proceedure. But, it was something like a 3 x overlock - just rediculous!

I could give that one a good home... I have the parts it needs. I wonder what it would cost to ship to Canada.

What would ya do with it? It can't play mp3s and do ANYTHING else without skiping. Can't run a screensaver or itll skip. thats what it was supposed to do was play mp3s. but no, it had to be slow like that.

You're right, it would be limited, but it could make a good "franken-puter" to do all the stuff I wouldn't inflict on my main machine. That, and it could increase my G@H output by 0.01 percent. ;)

Except fot the fact that i could buy the parts I need for it instead of paying to ship it to Canada :( And i can't bear to ship away my first pentium I ever owned and overclocked :).

Aww. Sentimentality. How cute.
I can relate. I hated to see my 486 go. It's a shame that the new owner probably wasn't aware of the tin foil I used as a make-shift jumper for setting up the hard-drive. ;)
Anyways, even if you did want to get rid of your pentium, you would probably be better to sell it on E-Bay. Many old Pentiums are still fetching a respectable sum. I've looked.

Man I'd like to get my hands on one of those. They are called "Golden Sockets" made by a company called IOSS in Taiwan or Japan. Sits between the socket and the chip and is chocked full of dip switches for setting the bridges any way you friggin want. Rarer than snow in Texas right now though.
