View Full Version : 1 Year Anniversary
Yo_Mama
6th March 2002, 21:19
April 12th will be my anniversary for crunching. To celebrate, I will be turning off my clients for good at exactly 1200. I like the idea of DC, but have been steadily losing interest for all the reasons others have already stated.
I would love to remain part of the team, and see great merit in Virus' concept of supporting 1 (or two) other types of projects. Pehaps in the next few weeks we can hammer out some sort of agreement. Either way, I'm done with G@H.
I understand the fears that diversification will tear apart the team, but having people leaving for good through frustration, apathy, or boredom will surely do it quicker.

Anyone who's been a part of this team is should know they are always welcome here, whether or not they're supporting any project. We'll keep a spot warm for you...

Australia must have a lot better social welfare system than we do here. Anybody claiming to be semi-retired in this country is at least 55 and more likely 62 or 66 or whatever. Never 22. :D :D :D

Sorry to hear that. Have you considered any other projects?
I'm coming up on my one year mark too. I believe a lot of us old ACHOers are.

You don't have to leave Genome all together, find another good project and run both.

My year ends March 25th and I am just about to hit 100K. I have decided to run -NoNet until 25th March and then break the 100K barrier in style....I may just be able to scrape a 10K dump by then

Cool with me, YM. Maybe we could encourage all members of either team to toss computer time to the other project from time to time, or to pile on board when duking it out with another team.

Hmm, it is my current uptime monitored by www.tuxtime.dk ....I run a small program on each of my machines that sends uptime data to their servers at a preset time (I use every 60mins). They will then give you a link that will overlay your uptime on a graphic for use in a sig or web page etc. It also gives stats like how many times you have re-booted and when etc, etc. Stats = good :D

Its easy dude, when you choose save for the web, choose transparent gif and you will see an option to set the matte colour. By default I think it's either black or white (looks white in your gif). The matte needs to be something similar to the colour of the pages you will be using the graphic with. In this case, just set the matte at #889CBD, this will remove the fringe from you image (actually, the fringe will still be there, it'll just be coloured close to the BB pages) and it'll look much cleaner.

Sure it's available! I hearby grant any and all members, users and friends of thegenomecollective who have completed one year of service with the genome@home DC project, exclusive rights for the use of said 1 year anniversary badge. Tril, if you feel it's worthy ;) you can add it to the TGC Insignia, Awards and Medals.
Until then if anyone wants to link from my webspace, they have my blessing. :)

Ok... right of the top of my head i decided for something simple for the first candidate. I wanted it to reflect the fact that we are involved in(at least) 3 genome projects and we are "the genome collective" after all... so i kept it general. It won't matter what project you crunch for... it's applicable to all "genome" groups.
Let me know what you think... colours, themes, etc...
You can find it here (http://www.web-pix.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=531) at web-pix (http://www.web-pix.com). Thanks!
