Well I finally got my cables for my Linksys SVIEW04. I am soooo frikin' happy:D I get to view all my 'puters on my shiny referbed 21" monitor all for around 400 CAN which is about 180 pounds or around 250 US. I could be wrong on the conversions but I'm a happy little boy right now.:p

I'll have to ask the wife, believe it or not she was the one who picked it up for me :D she's tired of looking at a bunch of monitors and wanted her computer back online (I had to check Genome to see what was running so I needed her monitor:p ) I'll let you know when she wakes up

Well as it turns out she got it from a little computer shop in Mississauga she thinks it's called Advent Computers or something like that I'll try to find the bill. It apparently was in the bargin bin for 100 bucks, after looking at it some more I can see why, it's the ver 1 not the slick looking ver 2 (like I care:D ) I have seen the linksys KVM for close to 160 on some websites techstore.com has one of the better prices right now. Oh, no cables are included. I scrounged for mine so if you don't have access to the cables expect to pay about 30-35 CAN/set for these if you go with the slick Linksys ones.
If you want a Canadian retailer one that I have had good luck with is pccanada.com they are located here in Toronto so I don't know what their shipping policies are.
I hope this helps you out.

If you want to save a little more money. You can find some cheap cable sets on ebay. The seller sales@clickitnow.com (http://cgi6.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewListedItems&userid=sales@clickitnow.com&include=0&since=-1&sort=2&rows=25) always has some for sale. I have purchased from him before.
I'd still get some good one piece, shielded, cable sets for your machines that will be really used, and use the cheap ones for the crunching machines. The belkin cable sets are not very good. They are just like the $4 and $6 one on ebay.
I have a linksys 4 port KVM and it's great. There are two machines that I really use on it, one crunching machine, and the 4th port is used for whatever machine needs to be worked on. I have some cables with extensions for that purpose.

No idea on the Startech switches. Honestly the first time I've ever even heard of them so just goes to show you how much I really know about KVM switches. I'm extremely happy with this Belkin Omniview Pro that I have here. Goingt o o take soemones advise and head over to fleabay toget some more cables for it.;)

Oh zhotfire, they won't have anything on their website regarding KVM stuff but they can and will order anything in for you. Really reasonable prices too. Their prices on the sheilded cables was 34.99, I got a set from a friend wholesale for 32.99. Let us know what you end up with and how it goes.

Guys I use VNC to access all of my Linux systems. NVC support Linux, Win*^%s and Mac. If you have not tried VNC, Check it out (http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc)

Just got a Belkin Omnicube 2-port for £90 including all cables so that's my old computer re-activated. Genoming of course, but I'm damned if I can see why the network isn't working. I'll get there but M$ can be such a pain sometimes.
P.S. BTW, what was two instances of Genome running on a couple of P3-667s is now two instances running on a twin-proc P3-1GHz with 2¼GB of RAM (HP LP2000R) :)

I only have the KVM hooked up to machines that I actually use.
A remote program takes care of everyone else. You can't really use a remote prog to work on a remote computer. Well, you can, but the programs make things soooo s l o w.
I also use a few long cable extensions if I have to hook up a monitor or other perif. to a remote computer. It's a lot easier than moving everything around.

Has anyone used the Linksys ProConnect 4 port KVM. I just picked one up for $90 at MicroCenter. It's not powered, but rather gets it's power from the mouse ports. Just wondered if the Omnicube was worth the extra money?

The OmniCube is the only one I have had/tried so not sure if it is worth the extra, all I can say is no problems at all in 4 months so I’m happy [so far] :)
PS it was recommended to be by my mate who is an IT manager over anything else for home use, but hey only time will tell.

I have the bottom of the line Linksys which get's it's power from the ps/2 port, but my main worry is the video degradation. I had the best DVD hardware decoder on the market (2 years ago) and the signal was noticeably worse in Windows. (fuzzy letters). I think that the Belkins may be worth the extra money, but wanted others opinions before I go blow $170. The Linksys model I bought was PS2KVM4

I bought the Belkin cables, $14.99 for 3pair and bought the Belking SVGA Gold cables for my main pc. I couldn't find any other cable manufacturers in the stores and I'm too impatient to order online. What cables ya got?

I tried 12 different monitors before settling for the Hitachi Superscan 751 Elite. Ecost made a mistake and didn't charge me for it. I contacted them 2 times to tell them, but they insisted that I was wrong. Oh well, I tried.

Well, after much research I decided to get the Cybex/Avocent KVM. I read numerous reviews and not one reviewer disliked this KVM and placed it well ahead of the rest. My only gripe is that my new Logitech Corless mouse doesn't have all of it's functions anymore. I have their newest addition optical/cordless. The most comfortable mouse ever. The only thing that doesn't work properly is the 4th button which is no big deal to me because I programmed the wheel to do the same thing. I no longer get the battery status on my taskbar. Boo Hoo:mad:

I use a 4 port EDiMax KVM. Supports Intellimouse, standard cables and has worked like a charm. Cost $125 2 years ago.
Tried their newer version recently and was a piece of crap. There was no keyboard control!
For all of my Win2K servers I use the built-in Terminal Service Administrative Remote Access for full screen remote control. A virtual KVM...

I've decided to go with VNC for now instead of blowing almost an entire paycheck on a good KVM and cables... it's actually pretty fast when using raw encoding and limiting the desktop size and color depth of the serverside client... not like i use those machines for anything else besides gah.... :D

Sniper uses VNC and it works great. The only problem is his machines bios can't disable keyboard and mouse controls, so he has to hook each one up everytime there is a problem. He just lost 6 machines. He had to return them to work for duty.

It was a bit of a hassle when the power went out... 2 of the machines don't automatically restart when the power comes back on... :( I keep an extra monitor just for times like that thou.... All in all, i give VNC two thumbs up!:D

Me too... 3-4 systems I run remotely from VNC, if it crashs..... That means VNC won't load up so that menas i hit reset (blindly). Then it comes up and its ok. if it does that more than once, that means I should investigate further (cooling, software, etc)
