As many of you know, I'm an RN, working in an ICU. Well, a few years ago, I was a reg in the main Nursing Usenet newsgroups. Well, Usenet being what it is, the NG's used to get trolled by perv's pretty freequently, probably because most RN's are women. They saw these NG's as easy pickings and used techno-fear to terrorise the often, less than tech-fluent regs. Well, after a while, there were a few of us who became Troll guardians, by virtue of a little more knowledge than others, we were not so easily intimidated.

So, where's this going? I hear you ask, well in another thread in here, while discussing Photoshop, I came accross some Images I created, for an anti-troll website. I put this website together a couple of years ago, to act as a "bog off troll" warning - just to let them know they were not dealing with tech-virgins.

Anyway, the site is pretty cool take a look....

>>>EDIT: Link removed, too dangerous for friends :) <<<

A word of warning, some of the pages may be hazardous to your computer - enter at your own risk :)

Hint: Look at the bottom of your browser while hovering your pointer over the options, this will give you a clue to what lies beyond :)

Have fun..........

LOL, yeah the trolls never expected that from a Nurse :D :D

I got all sorts of hugs n stuff from the gals - I was dubbed "trollslayer" and they damned near cannonised me :)

Ok, I had to try it, had to resort to CAD to get out of it and almost needed new trousers when I tried reconnecting (BTi decided to disconnect while I wasn't looking).
Quite disturbingly twisted if you ask me. - I like it!...:D

Hehe, Hi Rid, let me guess, was that the page titled "three fingers"? that's one of my favourites :D Did you get the "Samuel Jackson" quote? Here it is again if you missed it...

A watercooler tbird, $10,000, an Asotn Martin DB6 and a small country house if you can tell me where it's from (the "Bible" gets "nil poit") :D

Well. That was fun.

That "virus" succeeded in crashing my computer. Norton Crashguard had a hayday before giving up ;)

You were warned my man, you were warned :)

Seriously, that's about the worst that can happen - what browser are you using? The virus (not a real virus, obviously, just a java script) doesn't work reliably on IE5 and above, but IE4 was a blast. The virus page (titled "I am a real troll") "can" crash your box - that's the most severe, the "three fingers" page, requires Ctrl+Alt+Del to escape, the other pages are harmless....

Yup, that was the one. :D

This really had me worried. I guess I should not have tried it on my (work) workstation. It was going crazy. Then it locked it right up. CAD did not work. I had to reboot.

I guess it's like posting a big "don't push this" button :D

Just to repeat, there are no real viruses, there are two pages which can cause problems.

The fist is titled "I am a real troll" and there is no escape from it. Sometimes, the page will crash your computer, it depends on what browser you are running, sometimes the page will just expire with no harm. This is the most "dangerous" page as it "can" cause a crash.

The other page to look out for, is titled "three fingers" and the only escape is C+A+D, otherwise no harm.

The other pages are harmless :)

IE6. It got to the message about drive C being unreadable, then trusty old (piece of shit) Norton Crashguard intercepted an unending series of stack overflow errors. Eventually I got a black screen with a hard lock-up. Luckily I was laughing by that point. I was thinking of all the friends I should give the link to. :D

LOL, the stack overflow errors are just java prompt boxes. You can put any text ya like in em and request the user to push OK. I just put a load of serious looking computer speak in there - BTW, exactly what is a stack dump? :D

Try this link, it doesn't lock your box up or anything, but it may put the willies up ya :)

Actually, on my machine, they presented themselves as full blown BSODs. Weird.

LOL! I hope the trolls aren't using Linux. I just right clicked the task bar and killed the browser.

As you've probably guessed, the page is one big java script, things run in sequence, prompt boxes, messages etc. All of that stuff is just any old crap I stuck in there for effect. At the end of the script, the last call is to a windows module, for some reason, this module sometimes causes lockups when called. I won't post specifics, because it can be included in emails which, when simply opened, casuse a BSOD 99% of the time. It runs a little differently when included in a web page, because of the way different browsers handle the code, so doesn't lock up with so much regularity. I discussed this some time ago on a.c.h.o (Usenet) and not one single person got a lockup. I guess you and siggs were unlucky.

Anyway, after feeding it to one troll on sci.med.nursing (the regs were all warned off) It scared the crap out of him (must've been a kid). He posted asking me what it had done to his dads computer, cos his dad was gonna kill him if he'd caused data loss. LOL, I got the guy to post a public apology for his previous abuse and told him to bugger off :) Most just never came back. A few were wise to it, and saw it as a gauntlet, but that was OK, cos it took the focus off trolling the group. All in all, pretty sucessful. I looked in recently, and they're plagued with trolls now - sad!

I believe Sam said that in the movie "Pulp Fiction". Not quite as famous as his going medieval on a certain body part, but he spoke it so eloquently.

Not at all, except it exploits windows and i removed the "sting" in the tail, so no one would suffer any more crashes. :D
