View Full Version : Joint DF team in trouble?

There's been a little talk about OCN starting their own team in a couple of threads. Here (http://www.piratefleet.com/forums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=006274) and here (http://www.piratefleet.com/forums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=006275)
I saw that. I'm dissappointed in some aspects because the core people that have been there from the beginning have been very supportive. It's the new people that are causing the riff. Hopefully everyone will join the joint team. Without Jodie, we have the capacity to outproduce OCN, but we can't with our current membership. I promised that I wouldn't pimp from the genome team and I plan on keeping my word, so it's up to the few core folks that we have. Coach, squeeks and quite a few others have been awesome. I hope they can find it in their hearts to stay and talk this through rather than breaking a good team up.

They have made a new team
http://www.piratefleet.com/forums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=006279
:(
What would the TGC folks like to do at this point? Since we took so long to decide on support for DF it cost us some good producing members. Without more support I don't think we can climb the ranks. It's really a shame that this has happened as I feel the relationship between our teams may suffer. Loyalty on a personal level is more important to me than a team is.
I'm sorry guys, I was perfectly happy folding on the joint team but people wanted an OCN team. If You can convince those who want to fold only on an OCN team to join the joint team I'll be there.

Blood- I doubt they would go for the Joint team. Most of them made it pretty clear that it was purely OCN or nothing when the joint thing was first done. Either way is cool with me.
I really don't have any problems with OCN doing their own DF team. The joint thing wasn't really discussed, hell, it happened overnight, literally. ;)
Actually, if all the OCN folks go to their team we'll drop a few places in the stats. I haven't looked at the total impact, but I think it would be a good thing. It would give the team a chance to duke it out with some other teams again, rather than just treading stagnate(sp?) water in 7th. We all know how fun it is just to be treading water.
Besides, if OCN really goes in for DF it'll leave 'em wide open for a Genome takeover!
Hi Pelligrini
how you been keeping my friend - been some time since we spoke :o
bet you never thought i would venture out into the wide world - but changes make this so ;)
sorry to thear about what has happened to the team - so what are you going to do retain the ONC name or start up your own team from TGC only under the name TGC

Hey Data!
Yea, it has been a while. I've been really busy lately. It's hard enough reading up on everything, much less having time to post. I hope you've been keeping well. How's the merged boards going (NM and 3DHQ)? I really haven't stopped by to give them a good read yet.
I'm not sure what's going to happen to the team name. I figure we ought to leave it Overclockers Collective. That's what everyone signed up on. I think there's a couple of independants. The name should only change if all the OCN guys go to a totally OCN team.

I'm not going to wear the overclocker's banner when they aren't supporting it. You can find me here (http://www.distributedfolding.org/teampages/team555.html) .

I stay (for now) with the Team I signed on to so The Overclockers Collective.
If more peeps from OCN go to the new Team, then I'll reconsider but I'm not going to give this team up without a very good reason.

There's several Names on the stats that I don't believe are affiliated with TGC or OCN. (Excluding the Cardboard faction :D ) I'm not even sure if they read the boards. It sure would not be cool to jump ship and leave them behind. I really don't want to be part of that again.
If we don't stay Overclockers Collective we could just change the name to TGC. That way we won't be leaving anyone out in the cold. I wonder if the people running DF would be able to send our Team members an email informing them of a name change, if it ever comes to that.
Besides, what's in a name, it's the people and the science that count.

You folks do what your heart tells you. As far as I'm concerned, I'm crunching for TGC. We've been dissed by OCN on this one and I'm not going to be a part of it. I'll happily go along on my own if need be. Look, TGC (http://www.distributedfolding.org/teampages/team555.html) is in 37th place allready!

I joined you too LBaker. I just changed 3 machines over to that account.
Although I am miffed that members left there are still several OCN members that are still here and that says to me that their word is still good. If they leave, we can then better asses the situation. Pelligrini has a very good point in that we have several core members from who knows where on the team that have never posted anything on TGC or OCN's boards. I wouldn't want to leave them behind. I would rather ask the admins of the project to change our name.

That's odd...
I stopped the DF service on three machines that had been running nonet. I put a new handle.txt file in the directories and restarted the client with the upload option. The result files were deleted from the directories but now, 20 minutes later nothing shows up in the account stats.
I will see what happens when these machines complete new work.

I just figured it out. The naming convention of work units completed includes the handle of the person that STARTED the work. That way worked can't be credited to someone else's account I would guess. So now I start from scratch.

hey guys... sorry about bailing from the team... as pel posted, OCC really did come together quite quickly... it was fun to explore this new project together, but when the OCN team started to come together, I had to move... I feel kinda bad though, because I was one of the first to challenge someone to start an OCN team... didn't really think the idea had any steam, but I guess others felt the time was right... sorry if there's hard feelings...
actually, I'm only marginally committed to DF... kind of moving in and out as my whimsy takes me... I have some personal goals to accomplish in G@H and won't be moving completely until I meet them...
anyway, I hope this doesn't tarnish the friendships we have forged between our two teams... you guys have a great one and we certainly seem pretty evenly matched, so I'm sure we will be battling it out - whatever the venue...
and, I hope you guys can get the OCC name changed to TGC...
good luck... :)

Well that’s why they call you guy’s pirates “you like to jump ship”. It sucks when you commit to something and it get tossed like that. Sunday (a rare day for me to dump) I stopped all boxens running genome, sent in all my cached units and was switching over to DF. I figured since OCN was getting back in the fight we could start climbing the charts…………I thought this was something that could have made a DC impact in the future if we started to make some noise on the charts together.

Since I stopped all my boxens I can take a DC break.

Has anyone asked Howard about changing the name to TGC?
Not yet. Read my other post and see what you think. In the meantime, please move your account back to the Overclockers Collective. I'm gonna email Howard and see if he can change the name. He'll of course have to delete the TGC team before changing OCC to TGC. (confused yet?) We don't seem to have anymore folks from OCN. Our friendships are tarnished a great deal, but there is no reason that we can't be cordial. I personally won't be frequenting their BB like I have been as of late. I wish OCN the best.

Shoot that e-mail over to Howard. I'll try to get hold of the Borg Knight and get him onboard as to what is happening. Hopefully he'll see this. I'm not gonna swich till Howard OKs the name change. I don't want to wind up having TBK change his account more than necessary. ?

Fair is fair. No genome pimping in the folding forum!

I thought pimping for any TGC team was cool now. When we collectively decided to branch out, part of the conditions was that it was OK to pimp. If we decided not to, pimping was not cool. That was my take on it.

Woops. Sorry. :o
I promised Tril that the folding team wouldn't try pimping in the genome forum. He was worried that it may take too much away from the genome team.
Does anyone have howards email address?

We're all clear for a name change if it happens. I really doubt Howard is going to go for it though. Apparently when everyone leaves a team it is removed from the list.
I emailed Howard and I'm waiting for his reply.

Ok I have joined the Overclockers Collective. I have a computer that will not keep running long enough to finish a sequence on G@H so I will let it run DF for now till I have time to mess with it.

I also think that Howard will just tell us to create the new team and move over. I don't know how to communicate to the other team members that would be orphaned by such a move.

I know. We have several people that have never introduced themselves on the BB, but are crunching away. Howard hasn't replied as of yet, but I figure he's probably swamped with work and emails.

How about the bulk of the team moves over to a TGC team and 1 or 2 stay and put "move to TGC" or something similar in their organization field.

Here's Howard's response. I informed him that the only people left were TGC members.
Presently the only way to change a team name is to create a new team and get everyone to change teams. I cannot easily rename teams. Even if I could, just because 1 team member wants the name changed does not mean the other 30 people do, right? I do not track the team creator's but perhaps later when we
enhance the features a bit more we can add this so the team creator can add logos and also rename the team, etc. Expect this to happen within a month or two's time.

I guess we ought to change our sig lines to let them know about the change, if we really need to change the team.
Maybe they'll stop by the board.

I noticed that we got a new person with alot of units today and my guess is the name. Would it be ok with everyone if we just let the name stay and put our website as our organization? Any suggestions?

I think it would be easiest staying where everyone is now.
Home is where you hang you hat.

By the way, we're being laughed at over on OCN's board. A little support from our genome friends would be much appreciated. As per usual without Jodie they can't produce crap. Admittedly, I'm jealous as hell at her production on her computers, but I can stay ahead of her in 1 project, kid production!:p

Everyone is free to do whatever they want, but I'm not going to follow OCN/Jodie around, switching projects whenever they do. I welcome other projects, as I would rather see people interested in them crunch under the TGC name rather than with someone else, but this is The Genome Collective. What do they expect?
