No prior Linux experience: RedHat or Mandrake.

You want to REALLY learn about Linux and how to set it up: Slackware (so I beleive).
You want to have a real pure GNU Linux: Debian.
You want to try from Windows before you commit: Peanut or VectorLinux.

Personally, I have always liked RedHat. Whatever you start with, you will most likely feel the most comfortable with in the long run. You could be different though

Debian always looks attractive to me, but can be a real pain in the aresole to get running. Mandrake is based on RedHat, but is more "bleeding edge" and hence generally less stable. My suggestion, if you can't decide from all this ramble, try RedHat 7.1.

Thanks for your advise, I'm going to try my luck with Redhat.

Linus Torvalds : Started Linux. He wrote the original kernel and maintains the kernel (Linux).

RedHat, ala RedHat Linux. Like MicroShaft only different....

I deon't think i could live without System Comander! :)

Win98SE - main
WinME - never use, but needed for tech support
Redhat 7.2 - other main
QNX RTOS 6 - in process of installing

I'm trying to find a free link for BEos, maybe its not free like they say :(

They have a free version, they just hide the link for it.

This page has a list of sites you can download from.

Hope this helps.

I installed Corel Linux on several computers. I almost laughed my guts out. It was way easier to install than Win98.

That's because Corels main focus was on exactly that. What do you think of Debian based distro's Rick? Is it all it's cracked up to be???
