It's always nice to hear such a nice welcome from friends :). I've never actually gone away... OK, well I didn't read any posts for about 36hrs, but that was the best I could do.

I wanted to be 100% calmed down before I posted anything to make sure I didn't say anything that would hurt peoples feelings. My last post a while ago was meant to start serious discussion about the team, but I ended up insulting a couple of people that I didn't think could be insulted... if you know what I mean.

I'm afraid our old threads were definately getting into the "flame war" "newsgroup" area (No thanks to me either.), so that's why I stopped.

Anywho... I'll adress that seperatey, I'm just glad to be back posting.

It is good to have you back Rick! I for one understand your retreat from the discussion.

But hey Rick, it's come at a cost me matey. Look, your a Junior Menber. As a result of almost continued hammering away on this keyboard, I have almost recovered 9 weeks of postings and earned Linux Guru......

My fingers are bleading, and tommorrow, we all start again!

Overclocking, no sleep, posting frenzies, team mergers, ahhhh, this is the life.

Well, I for one am delighted to see you back in here Rick. At the time, passions were running high and everyone was a little fractious. I think it was something we all needed to go through in order for something like this to happen (I'd rather not go through it again though :) )

great to have you back man :D

LOL, it was a thread on the old a.c.h.o BB (God rest her soul), it sort of took on a life of it's own - a sort of virtual "Cheers", glad to see it here too ;)

Howdy:

It's a thread Dnar started the day after I put my first computer 24/7 just to try and keep ahead of Dnar. LOL :D

I now have 2 machines running 24/7 just for the sake of crunching Genome. The friendly leap frog competition between me and Dnar has been great for Genome.

More genes... more genes... more genes :)

Hey Dnar:

Done any scrounging lately... I may have secured a few Ghz :) in the last couple days.

I'll be gone on vacation for a few weeks starting Saturday, so I don't know if my stats rate will climb or shrink.

Anybody going to convince me to leave my OC'd Duron running 24/7 while I'm gone. I'm scared we'll get a heat wave and it'll melt down while I'm gone. And what about lightning storms?

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

siggy
19th July 2001, 18:55
Rick_Deadly, you do what you think is best. I would love for you to run it 24/7. But I don't want the guilt if you have a melt down. So it is ultimiately your decision. Good luck and enjoy your vacation.

Thanks siggy but I don't think I'll enjoy my vacation. I'm going to be painting the mother-in-laws house and moving her furniture :(

I'll probably leave the Duron running 24/7 at least. If I get a lightning strike or something while I'm gone, I just have to buy an Athlon when I get back :) I'll shut down the other 2 computers, because there's no way I could afford to replace three if I have a disaster :crossedfingers:

Rick, I know how you feel m8, why not take the PC with you???

No I have not been scrounging, in fact I'm pumping 6 genes a day into the tank and 1 into dnar. I have still not installed the client on the Unix farm at work, and have decided not to. It just does not sit right, even though I am pretty much in control of the systems, they are just too critical. ALL Unix development is performed on these 6 servers, and all up they must contain around 50 man years of development.

Hi everybody:

I'm back and just a little dissapointed. While I was gone, I checked my genome progress and noticed I wasn't getting anywhere. My Duron I left running 24/7 wasn't crunching.

I think the neighbor I had left the key to my house, restarted the computer for whatever reason and did not log in. So the computer was running but not crunching :( (They didn't water the flowers and my wifes gardens died too... oops.)

Anyway, I'm back now, and have my computers crunching again. Let's genome :)

:) I don't want to say it's slow, but I just recieved the E-mail I sent me, from her machine last week, today!
:) I don't want to say it's slow, but the mother-in-law is 63 and she bought it when she was sweet 16.
:) I don't want to say it's slow, but last week I installed the ge and next year i'll install the nome.
:) I don't want to say it is slow, but when I started the client it took 382 WUs off of my stats page.

Beer on tap... I prefer the Canadian stuff like Labatts Blue, but if any foreigners stop by I can put on some Rickers Red.

Hey Dnar, do Aussies actually drink that Foster's or is it just an export to north america.

For the Americans, I'm sorry but I can't say anything nice about your beer other than it taste better than Mexican stuff. :) Of course, us Canadians are always willing to share our stuff, strong but not as classy and foamy as most of the British stuff.

We've actually started to get a few micro-brewries in the US that can hold their own anywhere in the world. Portland Micro has an insanely awesome Oatmeal Stout that I *really* like. I travel and awful lot, so have come to know a lot of the world's beers. If we could just get REAL Red Barrel and Guinness in the US now. Sigh:(
