Firstly let me apolagise for using the word microsoft in a linux forum :)

I have a microsoft intellimouse optical explorer mouse. The one with the two buttons on the side.

Does anyone now of a driver that will allow me to use all 4 buttons and the scroll wheel in nix.

I have installed imwheel-0.9.9 to get control of the wheel but cant figure out how to enable (if possible) the use of the extra two buttons at the same time as the wheel..
The best I can do is 4 button and no wheel or 2 buttons and wheel.

Forget imwheel......

You need the following in your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "off"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

The last 2 lines are crucial.....
