Update: Google Turns On Peer-To-Peer Computing App

Google has turned on a distributed-computing feature in its toolbar which will allow idle computers to donate idle CPU cycles to cancer research--and to Google itself in the future.

Thanks for the info Picchu.
I hope they inform their users about it and don't do as kazaa did.

Hmmm, will Google then, by default, register all those Google toolbar users to their Google team? Could be some unfair competition...don't you think? :(

I'm sure having the support of Google toolbar users is a very good thing for this project and for a wide range of future scientific projects that need this type of processing power.

In terms of team competition right now, Google should be placed in a different category -- a different league. Google could then compete with other toolbar sponsors. Other search engines have toolbars and there are plug-in toolbars for Internet Explorer.

On a more depressing note, if it catches on with Google toolbar users and those users participate in the the hundreds-of-thousands, then it might make team competition irrelevant. :(

If that would happen I'd say they are fair game for pimping. :D
