im having a little hardware problem
in the last week my puter has been crashing A LOT and its had a mind of its own today.
it decided it didnt want to run anymore. the screen went *blink* no more power. this just after the bluescreen of death.
i can only do 1/2 a thing at once to stop it from doing this.
is this a hardware prob? a software prob? a user prob?
what am i doing wrong?
i keep losing all my work (professional, leisure and genome)
it's REALLY p***ing me off
please help me if you can
WYLIE????
where r u?
Thats no good! Girl, if you can only do 1/2 of a thing before it crashes, may I suggest you crunch 50% of a gene, shutdown, then crunch the remaining 50%
This has all started since wylie tried to overclock her, has it not?
It has to be hardware if thats the case, could be RAM or Video card not seated properly. Your gunna have to get wylie back! Its a warranty job! Unless wylie offers one minute one mile warranty, whichever comes first....

since then yes
thanks wylie.
u tried yor best
please dont think im blaming this on you.
im going to try a defrag and get norton happening over night
maybe i just need to get a doctor in
oooooohhh, I don't think a defrag is wise. It does not sound like that sort of problem. If it crashed while defragging, well that could make things only worse.
How often is it crashing? Are you experienced enough to try re-seating the cards? After all, wylie would have had them out to play with your mobo.

ok
not a defrag then
its crashing every two hours or so.
but only if im actually doing something important *like pirating a cd*
ive never touched the inside of a computer in my life.
i have touched old bits that are no longer being used but they have no chance of going back in.
so no, i cant do it myself.

"97% of drive C is not fragmented"
shouldn't i fix this?
Er, no it's 97% "fixed" as you put it.
Besides, a fragmented disk does not bring your system down. At best, a fully un-fragmented drive is just a bit faster.
Ok, so your BSODing each time (blue screen of familiarity) ??? yes or No. Suggest perhaps you refrain from "pirating CD's", until wylie can "fix" your system.
Nice one Shu - LOL!
PS. Does it also crash when you hack into the Pentagon mainframe?

but i like to pirate :whingebitchmoan:
it doesnt come up with the blue screen of death every time, just sometimes.
sometimes i get the frozen screen where everything u do gets an annoying :click:
othertimes the system just restarts by itself
:brightlight: hey?? it couldnt be a virus could it?
ive had some pretty nasty viruses on this thing
one that stole my icq password and screwed it up on me. three times
The more info you provide, the more it sounds like SMR - "Sudden-Mobo-Rootus". Its a hardware problem for sure. I'll bet my.........................................
I bet if you boot it up, then hit the computer with a hammer, it will crash :D
What I mean is, boot her up (speak nice to her too), run something lame, like Windows :D and the CD player, just something to show its running, then gently tap (bash) the computer. It is crashes, its a card not seated correctly. The old "knockometer trick"....
(Don't try this at home kids).:D

sheesh....you guys mind if someone else joins in??
shue - will be around tomorrow to check it out (put the kettle on)
suggest new pooter however....relegate that one to secondary crunching duties!
wylie! You are alive. Been wondering.
Ok, so my technical suggestions are not exactly orthodox, but they work!
So, what do you think about the merger situation?
wylie
8th July 2001, 09:15
yes...alive...what a weekend! took me a while to find you guys...thanks for the email directions too!
Just a thought have we contacted members to tell them of the new board?
What do I think if the solution?
It seems PCCRITIX are keen to jump on board....if Skz do the same we're in business!
I see you have taken on a consultancy role.....well done but man....is the wife EVER gonna see you now??
:D

*me thinks it had something to do with all the junk i had running in the background though* :D
wylie
15th July 2001, 09:49
Man I have never seen a 'pooter with so many applications running in the background, in the system tray, and out in the open.
System resources down to 58% after bootup!
Sorry shue, your speccy keyboard and super winnie-the-pooh screensaver had to go...they were after all chewing up valuable crunching resources!
(PS - have some RAM for you - thatll help too)
