Does "cooling software" (e.g.- Waterfall, Rain, etc.) do anything at all when you're running GAH or other DC software? I would guess the CPU almost ever does a Wait, so you can't do any Halts. Probably very useful if you're building a gaming computer but not here. Right? ? ? ?

Correct Bruce, no use to DC'ers :)

My P-3 laptop runs thermally limited. The bios inserts enough wait stats to keep the processor from cooking itself - - so even though it's little fan is doing all it can, it's not enough to run DC full time and it slows down. Are they written well enough to help in this case? It has the potential of increasing my througput (slightly).

I'm not sure how I would tell, though.

I have used both waterfall and rain but this was a while back when running SETI. I ended up uninstalling them as they seemed to fight against each other thus slowing the SETI client down. DC clients and the cooling software both run at the lowest priority and both are looking for idle cpu time....this is where the problems begin.

So the OS never sees the wait states that the BIOS inserts? ? ? and doesn't have an opportunity to ever dispatch the cooling software.
