I've been doing some more work on a one possible colour scheme for the forum, or at least on the buttons. Take a look and let me know what you think....

Thanks Dave.

So am I to continue with this then? I could do with some kind of yeah or neh, because there are just over 100 buttons and little icons to work on. Each one takes about 10 min, so you can see there is a load of work to redo all the buttons. The colour is easy, it's the graphics which are a bitch. So, do you guys want this colour scheme, a different one, or keep the default we have now?

Keep going tril, you are doing a fine job!! When you are done, I will make your style the default as it matches the website and if nobody likes it, they can change it in their profile to either the vBulletin default (this one) or to another one that I/you do.

Good work mate :)

I like them. They're prettier than the ones we have now. If I were doing the work, though, I wouldn't spend that much time. The current ones work fine.

Cool thanks. But the reason the time is necessary is because there are a ton of pages you don't generally see. The ones I have modified already are the most used buttons, but if you look at the calendar etc, you'll see the default buttons still there. I think there is 101 buttons and icons, really most of em need some edit to work with the scheme. Something in the region of 10 to 20 hours work.

I think I'll post a poll on this, cos I really don't want to do all the work if folks don't want the result :)

There's a post by skz asking about the news on the homepage. I just noticed that all of the HOME buttons on the bb take you to bb-home, not Collective-home -- including The Genome Collective logo.

I benchmark directly to the bb and it is really tough to get back to the real homepage when I want to.

At the bottom of every page Bruce, you will see a <contact us - The Genome Collective> - if you click The Genome Collective, it will go to the website.

Good point Bruce, maybe Phil could change the link for the logo to www.thegenomecollective.com :)

I like it how it is. it looks cheery and like we're all friends. I strongly dislike the darker colour scheme

EDIT: Hm lets put it this way. I HATE THE NEW COLUR SCHEME! Looks very bad at this end. It looks too much like picards board. Right now ours is different from most team's boards, so i think we should keep it like this or use less subtle colours like shades of blue or green. Green might werk, cuz borg have green stuff and we are a big arse cube.................

Am I missing something. Picard's board is black and green and ours is going to be dark grey's with some splash of orange. is their another page design that I don't know about. The one I see looks pretty good. The buttons are great tril!

Whoa dude, you lost me here! Just out of curiosity, I did a screen dump of both boards....

Sorry man, but I completely fail to see any similarity. Also, our current scheme isn't different or destinctive - it's the default! It's virtually exactly the same as 1000's of other default users of vbulletin. It's the ulimate in nonedescript absence of individuality. It's like saying using the default windows desktop and screensaver is an expression of your creativity and imagination  It is designed to be acceptable to a vast majority of users, but by definition, sits quite squarely on the style fence :D

I have no objection to folks wanting something other than my greyscale offering, but please, lets loose the default : pleadingwithyouguys:

How about a weeks trial of the new colour scheme? I've mailed Phil the stle sheet and buttons, we could try living with it for a week and see. It's a 5 min job to revert to this scheme if folks hate it!

Tril - Do the greyscales.
Are you having reservations about jumping into things headfirst :p

We don't need one exactly like OC-UK (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?forumid=16) do we.

We could send Phil a couple hits of LSD and see what we end up with ;)

Me? Never :)

We could do one like OC-UK (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?forumid=16) if we really wanted to.

Gosh, how long do you think it took them to design a board so different and unique looking? :D

Like the TGC colour scheme,

And we have the default colour as well, are we able to have any other variations (like Arizona desert) :D

In theory at least, you can have as many as you like, though what it does to the bandwidth we shall have to wait and see. I think untill we know that, it's best to just use this and the default for those who want it. Maybe it's insignificant, but maybe not :)

New forum color scheme is great. End of discussion in my opinion.

Dark text on slightly lighter dark background does not work. Try it in a brightly lit room. I might as well be blind! I have to use my mouse like a blind man's cane to find links....

Bad design.....

Go to the very bottom of the BB "contact us" and "the Genome Collective" are invisable until your mouse hits it.

Why not use a black background with black text? We can make a game out of it. Who can find the text?

My comments also apply to the Web site. Too hard to see and read....

we can play around with it Will, though it could be argues that it draws your eye to the centre, which is the focus of the goings on.

Oh yeah, you know you can switch back to the vbulletin defaults in your user profile!
