View Full Version : Vote for the decor :)

Hi chaps, as I mentioned in another thread, I need to know if the work I'm doing on the buttons and colours is the way you want to go. A few folks have givem positive feedback, but it's a difficult issue - like redecorating your living room. I doubt we can get 100% consensus on anything, but as we all have to live with the results, some general agreement is necessary.
We've been using pretty much the default colour scheme for the board, and while it's innofensive enough, it does lack a little distinction and personality. The website is made of greytones and orange which works and many seem to like it, but that doesn't mean it will translate into a working forum. I've tried to do this on a sample forum and I think it's worked OK (at least I'm happy with the result). The buttons and icons are a bitch though, there are over 100 of them, each taking time to change - something in the order of 10 to 20 hours work. So you see, changing schemes is quite a detailed and lengthy business. What I want to know, is do you guys want to keep the default board we have now, do you want a greytone board like this one: http://www.synobyte.com/forums/ or would you like something completely different.
Remember, we have to live with our choices for a long time, so it needs to be right. If you want to look at some other styles and schemes, you can see lots of examples here: http://vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=10

Went to the Vb forum and notice different colours for the board
Before we have to vote, is there any way we can have a colour swatch somewhere, so perhaps we could all vote on a colour once we have seen it?
saw some great colours there as you say it is important we get this right

I don't see why not, what colours do you have in mind?
Remember though, we are creating a style sheet, which can be de-selected in indevidual user profiles. There is a drop down menu, which allows you to select a style, so we're just talking of making a new default. There will still be the existing style available, but you will need to select it in your user profile. Although it's important we do our best to please everyone, there will always be options if you don't like the mass choice :)

Cool......
So if i get this right, we can choose what colour we personally want to board to be, and we could have the grey as a default colour ?
P.S I quite liked the Arizona desert sky colour

Don't like new colours, to dark, need something more cheery and friendly.

hmmm! This is gonna be harder than I thought!
Cheery and friendly, dark and light, green, red, blue, grey, black, orange, pastels, magnolia, patterns, plain?????
I guess if you offer 100 options, you get 100 opinions!
My take is this.
We can choose whatever scheme we like, right now by editing our preferences. So the default doesn't really impact on our personal preferences, we just alter them to suit. The current BB sceme is innofensive, it's the magnolia of BB schemes. It's also as common as a dog - it is, after all, the default! Do I like picards - no, I think it's awful, but it does have personality. It dares to make a statement, it goes beyond magnolia, that says something and I admire that.
I seriously doubt the 90 members could agree on a colour scheme, but maybe we could agree to use something other than the default. It's just too - ordinary!
For me, trying to match the website is the way to go. It adds continuity and an expression beyond "ordinary defaults" and makes a statement of intent. We could use other schemes and I'm open to that also, whatever, lets not be ordinary :D

If you want to see a really different G@H BB, take a look at OcUK (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?forumid=16)
Wow, I wish we had one like that ;)

For me this is to dark but i agree that the colour scheme of the BB must match the scheme of the homepage.
This, to get a continuity of the scheme and so creating the image of the group.
(my dictionary is making overtime :D )
Maby we can go to a lighter gray scheme:confused:

Switched my profile to the vB defaults. The tgc is just too dark.
