Great stuff, 100Mb download though - doof, my 56k dialup would be humming for a week, assuming I can sustain a connection long enough to DL it. I suppose I could use gozilla and dl in shifts - 4 hours at a time maybe.

Or maybe I'll wait till it gets released on a cover disk.

Some benchmarks from folks running this demo...

Makes interesting reading. Seems like a GF Ti4200 + P4 is a nice combo.....

Is it because high speed is not available? Or is it because you wanna keep the missus? I tell ya, once you've tasted high speed internet, there is NO comming back... ask one of the blokes in your area to mail you a copy on CD.

It's because 56K costs £10 ($15) per month and high speed is £40 ($60) per month. That's about $500US per year more. That's using British Telecom. Unfortunately, I dont live in a cable area, which is much cheaper I think (or at least you can rationalise it by having your phone lines and TV channels piped via the cable).

It is cheaper here to have cable, and I get the cable tv for "free". Channels 1-99 come through with no need for the box. Telephone and internet (http://www.rcn.com/resilink/index.html) (and tv ;) ) for $55 per month. (bronze package) Worth every penny!

There should be somebody from here close enough to you to dl/burn/snail it for you. Doesn't everyone in England know everyone else? ;)

Played a couple matches last night(won both :D). The 2 maps included in the demo have a good flow and are quite fun to play. They're large enough that you can have 1 on 1 battles(most of the time) without having someone ambush you from behind and spoiling the fun. I've only run into one bug so far, a weapon sound effect contiuned for about 30 seconds longer than i used the weapon. A little annoying, but not bad for the first public release. At the default video setting of 800x600x16 the demo runs very smooth on an "old" GF2 GTS and a @1.4 athlon. Well worth the download!

Oh man, that screenshot makes me sick.....

I'm gonna have to do something about this apalling state of affairs!

Hey Phil, you know your server - the one you use for our IRC, do you think it's up to hosting this demo for a little private one on one (or five on five)? (assuming the demo has multiplayer functionality)

I'll have a look at the weekend. The server will handle the load no probs (Dual AMD) but I am worried about the bandwidth issue. Personally I don't mind running it but my ISP has in their terms and conditions that no servers are allowed :( I'll have a look and see what sort of traffic 5-10 users are going to generate and decide on that info - if it's too much I'll not risk them pulling my service.

I'd be more than willing to put up a server on my cable connection ... my isp actually welcomes game servers(they prefer it to pr0n). Should be able to handle 6-8 players. Let me know... :)

W00T !!!!!
Can I play with madness?
What is your ISP, Zhot... if you come driving by my side of the playground, bring a roll of cable and unroll it on your way down... :D

It's the old Access Cable, now Eastlink or Weaklink as we like to call them here... :D
I've run a quake3arena deathmatch server before, but never had anyone from across the pond play on it. Tril's modem connection might make him a sitting duck! :evilgroin:

I thought i was being smart by watching by bot teammates. Each time they scored they jumped through the portal or so it seemed... after killing myself several times trying to duplicate this, i realized you're supposed to throw it in.... doh! :o
