Got a phone call from my uncle asked if I could upgrade his 166 MMX for his son going to college. I said sure, might as well just start fresh.. a 4 year old case and parts will pretty much be worthless...but you know im going run G@H on it 24/7 :)

got a mid tower w/ 300ps
1.2ghz 266fsb tbird w/ volcano-II
gefore nvidia 32mb agp w/ tv out
2x256 micron pc133 sdram
30 gb 7200rpm maxtor hd
mobo is a cheapo ECS K7VZA , he doesn't want it overclocked and it has pretty much all he needs.
im pulling the cdrom and floppy from the old machine.

total price = $480 bucks. not bad! He will be using it for autocad and other word processing apps. can anyone see anything wrong or have any suggestions?

How much is that Micron memory? Crucial has some unbelievable prices on memory right now. Is that Athlon a t-bird or a Palomino (MP) Paly costs more but they run A lot cooler.

I think Crucial is the retail arm of Micron.

And anyway, just because cuz doesn't want it overclocked, what has it got to do with him???? He's only the user fer chrissakes! You can't start listening to lusers!!

Get a grip.

If it's primarily going to be a 2d CAD machine, If you can fit it in your budget, I would reccomend a Matrox card insead of a gforce chip. The Matrox products are the best low priced 2d cards available. There are sometimes issues with the display drivers and the Autodesk products with other cards. I have never had any problems with any of my Matrox cards.

what do you think about an old voodoo 3000 agp? Or would I be better off with something else? Money is not a problems...I would rather have something that will run faster for 100 bucks.

I think that memory was about 60 bucks total..
