I got samba werkin' and i can see Penguin on all my windows boxes, but if I try to view any of the shares it asks for a password. I never set a password. I tried guessing it but I can't come up with it. Do I need to setup passwords? I have share settings set to share level, not user so i don't know why its asking for a password :confused:

Yeah, dnar just told me.

I am still asked for a username and password, but don't enter anything in either....just press enter. I suppose I could map the network drive and it shouldn't ask for the password. Really, both the accounts on both machines should match for it not to ask for a pass.

Glad to see it wasn't just me. I never did figger out the password, I just don't use samba. As soon as this gene is finished, I'm going to W2K Server. Linux works, but it takes me 10 minutes every time I reboot to find the durn directory genome is in!

I tried hitting enter, it still doesn't werk. Do Ineed to set up passwords and user accounts?

Like
user amjr
pass = (null)
user genome500
pass = (null)
etc

I haven't set any passwords ever, I'm at a loss to where to set this up at?

I used the version included in my RH7.1 Bible

I installed ALL packages (I had 30G available :D)

In SWAT :

I touched no other params than those specified below

Globals

Netbios Name : Penguin
Security : SHARE

I created a share named ghclient

Comment : Genome@Home
Path : /usr/local/ghclient_linux/
Guest Ok : Yes

I can open Network Neighborhood on all my W2K or W98 computers and it work just fine... Nothing had to be touched on the W side...

Ok, version 2.2.1a is in

I can now see the printer I have shares, but can't print to it. and nobody can see the /home/ share.

I also get this when trying to connecto from linux to windows:

tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.)
