Used to use AVG (kept the definitions bang up to date), then got a copy of Norton, which flagged up about 1/2 dozen infected files that AVG had missed.

Used to use norton and dr. solomon. mcafee took over dr. and kept updated for awhile. Then tried mcafee but such a pos to keep updated (chasing updates on their pages.) swapped to norton. (Had Kap for awhile also)

AVG by grisoft. Caught some strays that mcafee missed so I switched all together. No problems. That is when I use windows :)

PC-cillin. Norton is a great Anti-Virus Program, but not as user friendly as PC-cillin and as mentioned before doesn't require rebooting after updates. McAfee on the other hand is horrible. After they bought Dr. Solomon's their product line went down hill. It's a shame because Dr. Solomon's was a fantastic Anti-Virus program that almost always won in reviews. We had one department at my last job that refused to use Norton and insisted on using McAfee. We set a update server up for McAfee to ensure timely updates to the program. That department consistantly got viruses while the Norton protected pc's hardly ever got infected. At my current job McAfee has consistantly let viruses through and consistantly causes problems with computers. Crashes, slow you name it.

I tried using Panda anti-virus Platinum, for a while it updated automatically whenever I connected to the Internet, but after a few weeks, it kept saying that the database was out of date & that I should update, but when I tried to do that it just said updating & did absolutely bugger-all, so I de-installed it & went back to AVG.

I use Norton mainly for Email and Auto-Protect and Kapersky's for weekly scans.

I have to do a little bragging about Norman, I think it’s the best. Never been infected by a virus but if you look at the screen shot, (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/ohms18k/images/dtop6.jpg) Norman has been busy nabbing script kiddies. Norman is expensive and I run the server version, which does all the work and feeds all my workstations. Zero Administration.

I'd give it a try, but I've never seen it come up in a.b.cd.i

What skin/facer are you running for your windoze installation?

I get Norton for free ( gvt employee). It doesn't require reboots after new defs, either.

Be careful with that dude, my comp was infected with a klez variant that AVG completely missed about a fortnight ago. I had AVG set to daily scan at 7am, and kept the defs bang up to date. I tried Norton, just for shits and giggles and bingo, it flagged about 1/2 dozen infected files on the first run (nothing since). Nuff said! Norton for me now.

You forgot to add....don't use any stupid anti virus. They use too many resources that could go to crunching. C'mon you all, where is the dedication. We don't need no stinkin' anti virus. :)

Quick tip for those who have Norton, by the way. If you try to run the Intelligent Updater and it tells you that your licence has expired, just set the clock back a year, run it, then reset your clock to today. This has been working flawlessly for me for some considerable time.

OK, after trying a load of Virus checkers...Norton, Mcafee, AVG etc, I have finally come to the conclusion that Kaspersky AV Personal Pro suits me the best. It is very fast and doesn't slow the system down unlike Norton and Mcafee. It has a nice interface and gets good reviews. After paying for the "other" big names in AV, it is a welcome change to find something actually worth paying for.

You paid for those other ones? Wow. :) I don't use any AV. If I get I virus, I just reformat. :)

I use Panda Antivirus Platinum 7.0 and I am quite happy with it. It updates everyday and as far as I know Norton witch I used before, only updated once a week, and if there were a emergency. Panda updates even if they only have found 1 new virus. Norton could learn something there.....

If you're looking for ways to bypass the license requirement, you can always uninstall and reinstall.

Does anybody use the anti-virus that comes with the paid version of Zone Alarm?
