K, I'm in marching band.
Yesterday was grand, no feet pain
today near the end of this days camp, after practicing running cadence (running with short steps on balls of feet) my toe started hertin like the devil
I got home ripped off my sock and found a swelled up part near the nail. I poked it lightly with my finger and a bunch of greyish fluid came out. Its not under the nail, and it doesn't look like its ingrown. Almost like a blister from my nail on the side where the nail touches the skin of my toe.
IT HURTS! No blood, toes are kept trimmed properly (straight acroos), and the nail doesn't seem to curve inward like an ingrown would. PAIN! OWWW! I'M GONNA DIE! not really, but it does hurt really bad. worse than non fitting shoes worm for a week at boy scout camp (pretty bad)
So all you medical peeps, whats me problem? What can I do? i have 8 days of band camp left and don't wanna mess up :(
What the heck was the grey fluid? Blisters have clear fluid, pimples have white. Never seen a pimply looking thing on a toe that squirts grey
Sorry if this is discusting for you weak stomach people

I could do with some toe advice as well.
It is my big toe, just where the meets the skin on the side, it is quite painful, doesn't seem in-grown. It also doesn't seem to hurt near the nail, it hurts more 'inside' my toe (just beneth the skin). Bit of swelling but that is about it.

Only thing I could think is it's some kind of infection. Do you have any redness around it? If so, I'd mark it with a pen to see if it worsens or improves. Other than that, take 2 of these and call me in the morning.:D If it hurts as much as you say, you may want to have someone look at it. Either that or suck it up.:D

K, it doesn't seem to have swolen any more. I kept my sock off and put some antibacterial gel on it. It stopped hurting all at once after 2 hours :( It did hurt very bad, like can't put any pressure on it bad. I just hope its ok for band tommorrow. I'm gonna get different shoes too. It was slightly red for about 5 minutes (it wasn't red after i put the gel on it)

If you can squeeze it and get a little white puss I'd also guess an infection, but could still be in-grown. Sometimes people get this type of pain, but it usually goes away after 2 or 3 days. That's my best guess.:D On the other hand, I might need to amputate your toe, or maybe the whole foot if it's been going on for a while. Ha!:D You didn't need by any chance did you?:D :p

At least you didn't ask him to ship the foot over so you could take a look at it ;)

I've got a bit of a headache, should I amputate for that as well?

Naah, just relieve some of the pressure with a 11/32" bit and bit-brace, 3 or 4 borings should do it. You can't use a high speed bit and drill because the smoke from the hair might set off the smoke detectors.

I know someone who uses a dremel to remove callouses. For real. I've seen him do it. Makes a white cloud of dust too, just like any other dremeled item. Hey! Now they can sell dremels for medical uses and increase sales! I betcha you could knocksomeone out (with those gasses they use) and dremel off a finger or toe instead of chopping it with whatever they use. That would save on training, :D I think anyone could dremel a finger off
How would I get an onfection when ther is no skin breakage? Maybe i can't see it. It sure looked like a blister though. Maybe an infected blister? When the fluid came out, it all came out at once, and then no more at all. Like a blister that has evil white stuff in it.

Holy Crap man, greyish fluid, eratic pain, not ingrown - Hymalayan toe rot, a variety of necrotising faciaitis, caused by yersinia pestis. I've seen this only once, resulted in above knee amputation and 6 weeks of val Doonican records looped on 8 track. Get it looked at, or get the Roncoe home amputation kit for a speedy solution - comes with a free Roncoe Banana resealler too.

Ok, so I overreacted a bit :D
I seriously can't figure out what caused it or what it is. It doesn't hurt anymore, but its still got a lil goop comin' out. I'm overy worried cuz I'm diabetic and i have band camp for another week :(

Ahh, man you leave out the important stuff. Are you insulin dependant, diet controlled or on metformin? You know you have an increased risk of peripheral vascular disease, though from what you describe, it's probably just a blister that got a little infected. Though you know you have to take extra care of your feet. It's probably nothing at all, but you need to be more poaranoid than others, so my advice would be to go see a doc, even if you have to skip camp. the impared circulation to your toes, as a result of your diabetes, means a small infection can be a bitch to get rid of.

Okey dokey, insulin dependant, type 1
Whats metformin?
If its not gone, or healed, by tommorrow I'll prolly get it checked out. i was anyway, but ran out of time today.

Whats metformin?
It's an oral anti-diabetic, used in type 2 diabetes, metformin-hydrochloride is part of a family of anti-diabetics called biguanides. It decreases glucogenesis and increases peripheral utilisation of glucose. It only works in the presence of endogenous insulin, so you need to me making a bit yourself. It's a very popular anti-diabetic for type 2 diabetes in the UK, but may not be ratified for use in the US - I dunno?
Anyway, type 1 diabetes = definitely get it checked out, better safe than sorry.
Cheers,

Okey doke. And get new shoes and make sure my marching band shoes (i don't have em yet, fittings thursday) fit ok. They have the tendancy to give people shoes that don't fit :(

"Chief, stop poking Crystal with yer boner" type of stuff

Tril you're right, knowing he was a diabetic was kind of an important piece of info there. :D
Remember all, American Pie 2 is coming out soon. I've already got my popcorn waiting to go see it.:D
