I sold my trusty old Tbird-C 1000 (133 FSB) on another overclocking forum, and the buyer says the CPu doesnt work. Off the bat, he came across like a know it all expert, yet the more I deal with him, the more he sounds like a complete nube. He didnt knwo how to re-do the L1 bridges, he didnt know that the Tbird-C was 133 FSB... I am worried he has damaged the chip and now he wants his money back... The CPu was shipped 3000 kms across Australia. What should I do?
BTW, he clains now to have "changed heaps of CPU's" - he also says he is water cooling the chip....

Did you imply any type of DOA warrantee?
Is he even using the proper mobo for the chip? Was it DOA or did he kill it himself?
If it were me, I would only refund the money once he shipped it to me, at his expense. If there's any damage, f'd up bridges, heat etc.. I'd throw it in an envelope with a stamp with a letter saying "tough-titty", you broke it, it's yours. If it's good, I'd still refund the money and sell it to someone else. If it's bad, with no apparant damage, I'd cuss a lot, then I'd still refund the money.
Have you looked around the forum to see if he has bought from anyone else? to see if the sellers has any similar cirumstances.

That's the risk you take when selling anything to someone you don't know. I'd rather give stuff away or sell it to someone I know and can reach personally. The same goes for buying too. Doesn't he know over-clocking a chip voids any return, what a schmoe :D. If he changed heaps of CPU's why did he buy yours? Tell him to kiss off and thank him for his business.

Stuff sold person-to-person is normally a case of "Caveat Emptor" (gees - more Latin  ), if you didn't tell him that you would guarantee it, then he ain't got a leg (or other limb of his choice) to stand on - it was sold as is.
If you get it back, check the label for signs of overheating - that would void ANY warranty.

Tell him to send it to you insured delivery. If it is broken, claim the price of the CPU back from the Post Office....believe me, this works like a charm and you are both happy ;)

No DOA warranty, although he now claims the forum "rules" state 30 day... I cant find that sort of rule anywhere.
Today I asked him if the heatsink was touching the CPU corrrectly, he got aggitated at that, stating "I have changed lots of CPU in my years". I asked him how old he is, "17" LOL.
Anyway, he's shipping it back with Insurance, I have said I'll happily refund his dosh IF the CPU works OR its not showing core/heat damaged. Failing that, I'll claim post insurance....
Bloody know it all newbies!!!!

Scratch that, he now says "I am only 17, I cant afford to loose the $70 this dud CPu cost me, and I cant afford the return post insurance"... I prompty told him no deal and to piss off...
Cripes, I have over 45 PM's with this turkey now, he has wasted enough of my time....

You guys sitting down? I told this guy I was happy to refund his money, on the conditions:-
1. The CPU core is not damaged.
2. The CPU doesn't show signs of heat damage.
3. It is returned with Insured Post.
His reply, is that in that case he now want's a full refund INCLUDING his post costs.

You could suggest that if he puts his idea where it belongs he would stop farting like a virgin.

Hey Dnar, about the legal beagle, that friend of a friend has turned me down, but I'm gonna try another firm - it's a pretty big firm, so I should have more luck there. Stay tuned for more info.
ps can you either PM me or e-mail me the details of your complaint? I may have to give all the details to the solicitor for his assessment.
