In a last ditch effort to milk another three to five years service life out of the Clipper pawnshop app I maintain, we're going to start tweaking it to run, initially at least, under DOSEMUlator on Linux. Not a huge biggie there but to test it until we can see if it breaks and also get me up to speed on Linux, work is getting me a new Toshiba Tecra laptop to use as my development machine. The intent is to run Linux but also virtualize Win2K and Win '98, as well as DOS under Linux.
The one Penguin we have at the office is a Red Hat fan. Anyone else care to give me a succinct summary of the pros vs. cons of the various flavours of Linux in their latest incarnations. I don't care too much about setup hassles, I just don't want to 4K around to keep things running from day to day. Been over a decade since I diddled around with Unix on a regular basis and I still have a bad taste in my mouth from wrestling with the Altos. So, a (MUCH) better DOS than Win2K and at least as much stability are my bottom lines.
TIA,
