View Full Version : Individual stats...

MaTriX
1st August 2001, 13:53
I just finished the process that automatically update and upload images of individual stats. Of course I'll add to it and try make it look nice...

You can link to the image in your Sig.

My banner is http://pages.infinit.net/jclaudev/genome/3889.jpg

You use the same link but replace the "3889" with the ID that's assigned to your name.

You can find your ID there :

http://pages.infinit.net/jclaudev/genome/TGCMembers.htm

I'll try to keep it updated within 15 minutes of each updates...

p.s. Make sure you put it in [ img]http://pages.infinit.net/jclaudev/genome/3889.jpg[/img] block

OK MaTriX you are out-doing yourself. That is VERY cool. Would it be possible to have the team rank in the same pic?

MaTriX, can i suggest the images could be smaller, as were looking at 8k per stat. and thats going to add up quickly. Goodby 30gig/month....

Try making it smaller, will look best too.

Thanx m8ee, notice I use the tank as well ?

Of course you will, the number currently is from the individual stats, independant from any team you may have crunched for.

I already have numbers available to show ACHO + SDT + PCCX + TGC combined...

But I'll try to focus on production rate more than rank, I'm not interested in what was done long time ago, I prefer what's done NOW...

No need to worry for bandwidth, it's just links to files located on my provider's server... All bandwidth is on them :D
But I'll make it much smaller (and display more interesting stuff), this is just the prototype...

Go into your sig and paste this:

You'll have to delete the space before and after the first IMG though. Had to do it this way so you could see the link and not the pic.

Matrix, this is ultra cool, the only problem I can see with it though, is it's a little intimidating for those of us with one or two boxen and comparatively tiny output. It's great to see you guys with farms and 20 or 30,000 WU's, you're the backbone of the team, but I kind of feel a little pathetic with my 2250.

Medic193

How come tril's sig looks different. 1 line as opposed to 2 lines. Tril don't worry about it. It all goes to the team and that's what it's about. If we were to lose all the crunchers that had 1 or 2 computers, we would not have much of a punch anymore. Everyone on this team is appreciated! :)

Martyn

You're right of course Chas :)

Matrix, how about a *really* small image, more of an info pane - taskbar size. You could actually make it quite long though.

Hey guys, you know there must be a way of hacking the vB code to integrate this into the board itself, maybe a small panel accross the bottom, say in between AIM and the edit button. I wonder if Phil could pop over to vBulletin and ask em?

I made a few little changes there...

Removing the bold was already planned, thanks for the reminder.

I also changed the date/time, it was the last update of the stat page, now it's the last update the number changed for that member.

I love the weekly production, I would remove something else before that... Maybe the name...

Well I now this is a bitter pill for a stats god, but in my opinion (and thats all it is) you can have too much of a good thing. I think an indevidual total is a good thing, but putting weekly totals in there may be counter productive. It could cause a stats race with the heavy hitters, but would likely put off the smaller crunchers (like myself) - it's possible to shout too loud. Also, the BB is in danger of graphics overkill, it's starting to look waaaaayyyy cluttered with all the sig graphics, I really think we should trim em down a little, it's starting to get annoying, especially when folks post a one word reply, and have 72 lines and 8 graphics in their sig :D (You know on Usenet, the convention is 4 lines - topps)

Re the name, I think that should stay, it would mean ppl could loose a typed sig (reducing sig size) and it verifies the stats they are displaying are their own.

Again, just my 0.2

Martyn

Just want to remind folks, that Phil enabled the image tags in the sig, to allow the posting of the tank.

Phil:
I don't mind enabling the option but as long as ppl don't start putting loads of crap in their sig. As soon as the bb slows down, I will turn this option off.

I think a single stats graphic, or the tank is OK, but multiple graphics are gonna get the feature turned off.

Actually, it was Excalibur who asked a while ago, for the tank, though it may have coincided with you asking too - I didn't see your post. The stats are totally cool Matrix, please don't misunderstand. Phil (myself and cpl others) had misgivings about turning on the img tags, because it would open the flood gates to horrendously cluttered sigs. Phil made the quote earlier and I totally agree. Some folks have quite a few graphics in their sig now, which just gets repeated over and over every time they post a sinle word response - it makes the BB look and read terrible - at least it does to me. I love your stats graphic, I'm just hoping folks will moderate their sig artistry for the benefit of good reading.
Cheers Matrix, excellent work, keep it up.

Nein.... it's normal... it's the first 24 hours of the function and it's uterly COOL... so people wannna be creative and so.... tril is jsut trying to remind us to be easy on the salt... (awful for your blood pressure anyway)....

Actually , when I asked Phil about it, I posted a test sig in the Mod lounge... well it had 5 or 6 graphics and the same amount of lines.... it was a funny story.... but as mentionned then, if this was in all my posts..... I would have cluttered the board in 2 mins....

Keep the tank, or the Unimatrix Stats, or pelligrini stats (looks good... will impress chick that come by....). Just ine, maybe two... and swap en around every day if you like. there's nothing like variety in a sig..... but STAY AWAY of dnar's auto-sig script... changes your sig every 2 nanoseconds....

Hey wyles, I'm just expressing my own opinion. I can't and won't ask you to do that. But, it was discussed in the mod lounge and the big man did say he'd turn the feature off if it got crazy (for bandwidth reasons) - that definitely won't happen, because Matrix's stats graphic is so cool - no way we'd give that up. The tank graphic is gonna appear in possibly half the posts on the board - do we need to be reminded of the numbers in so many posts? I dunno man - it the old Usenet anally retentive grouch comming out in me here ;)

Plus I've got a cold :(

Example, the tank stats appear in half the posts on this page so far.

Right people....it seems that you have sorted this out yourselves but here is my take on things. Both X and MaTriX asked for the IMG tags to be enabled for the sig files. My only stipulation was that they weren't to be abused and a couple of small images (in file size and physical size) would be OK. These images will not effect our bandwidth here as they are from other servers. What they will do though is add to the time it takes to load a page.

Please think before you add any images to your sig...this is a cool idea that both X and MaTriX have and we don't want to spoil it.

Not to be toooo anally retentive (after-all, I come from the 'three line signature is the MAX polite signature' days too), but I would point out that (beyond the visual clutter) If EVERYONE on the page had the same graphic (tank, for example) it wouldn't effect bandwidth anymore than one person. That's what browser caching exists for...

No relationship to anything. It's just an internal number in my database and have no meaning other than generating a unique identity.
Using the full name when accumulating statics would have been highly inefficient, associating it with the ID make it much smaller (and much faster...)
