View Full Version : 131 lost 8 places

I know 131 is the red head step child of TGC but we lost 8 places in 30 days.
With 5 active members in the last week I can see why. Are we as a team going to let this fall off to the side or can a couple of u switch over a machine.
I know there is lots of client switching going on right now....but I do wonder what the new year will have in store for TGC as a whole.

F@H was never particularly exciting for most of us. One problem is that we're nowhere in the league of Ars for horsepower as a team so the more we spread our efforts, the less we actually get done on any one front. Still, after a whole lot of discussion last year (early this year?) we decided that rather than split up a group of people who work well together and enjoy each other's company that we'd start teams in whatever genetic project people wanted to participate in.

Personally, I've been in F@H since the start, even set up a team and Borged a bunch of my boss' computers at my last job. I've got the same problem as TGC on a micro scale, deciding what to support. Guess most of us do too. I have just enough computing power to make a decent showing in one project (G@H in this case) and a box that only SETI wrote a client for so that's my usual breakdown. I'm going to do a bunch more SETI for the next month just to help out the first DC team I joined to break a million and hit my own goal in production too. After that, it's back to Genome at least until I break 100K, from there? Why not F@H again? Maybe DF.

As a team, it's nice being one of the heavy lifters in G@H, we're doing pretty well in DF too and that's one of the reasons people participate in a particular project: the stats, being part of a powerhouse team. Other reasons vary from personal preferences to a client that works best with one's hardware setup. Speaking just for myself, I see TGC as a team continuing to do in our second and third years what we've done so far, a lot of genetic crunching. Well, that and hanging out and having a good time interspersed with the occasional intramural spats and rivalry with other teams.

Guess my question for you is what would you like to see us doing when we start our third year and what can we do to support your goals and interests?

I am not about to tell people in here what to do. TGC is a top team and u all have far more experience than me. I am here to learn from the team produce for the team support the team.
If the team needs me to switch clients I will switch clients. The only request I cannot fill is SETI stuff. I would rather spend my time and money supporting the medical side.

Cool!

Do the project that you feel helps out the most. F@H and DF are the ones needing the most production just now.

SETI only came up because some of us here are from Skz and they are pushing to break a million units before the end of the project. If you're not happy working on SETI, by all means stay with what you like.

Merry Christmas,

Team 131 has dropped yet again from 109 to 117.:banghead:

I :dump: 1k for gah last night and have switched my XP2000 and XP2100 over to FAH client 3.24. Will try to add 3 new machines as we go into the new year.

I'll throw something that way again in a month or so. Thanks for holding the fort!

Because you're a nice guy? Because someone has to? Just because?

I've been running FAH on one machine, but afew WU went to the anonymous user
because somehow my client.cfg got stomped on, and my user, and team ID where blank:confused:

But it's fix so you should see some unit showing up under

:baa: A big thanks. :baa:

Are u running the new client ?
Mine seems to be very stable on my 2 machines here at home. I do like the " unitinfo " in the directory. I just need to figure out how to automate email this to my cell.

There have been several people complaining that their client.cfg got stepped on. The work-around for 3.14 was to set everything the way you wanted it and then make the file r/o. You loose the "local" count of how many WU that machine has completed, but it keeps on folding for the right team.

They made some changes that were supposed to help (although they're guessing, since they never confirmed the failure) so maybe it's fixed in 3.24.

Lets hope so. I am tired of spitting out FAH WU`s to 2136075668 instead of 131. Why is there 2 team numbers ?

The Stats for FAH and for GAH (which originally were totally independent projects) are on separate websites. One of the options discussed when the FAH3/GAH2 client was being proposed was to discard / freeze the GAH stats (with our team 2136075668) or to just let them run. We were one of the vocal teams saying Stanford should keep them running.

Team 131 was started at FAH by a very few folks quite some time ago, but has never gotten a lot of interest by TGC members.

Personally, I still put most of my efforts into GAH and our GAH team, but when I'm beta testing a new client, all my folding points go to our FAH team. I find the science of FAH to be more intriguing than the science of GAH, so I may switch more of my farm over there, as time goes on. I haven't decided yet.
