man, am I gonna have a headache converting this style over to that one - have ya seen at the bits and gizmos on the new vB3???

I'm afraid we're gonna loose some functionality with this release - the portal will dissapear for a while, some of the hacks etc, but it looks like all the good stuff is gonna be packaged with vB3 anyway. ;)

OK, list em here - must have hacks, what features cant you live without?

I'll start...

1. quick reply box.

That reply box has M$ Frontpage written all over it!
I'll second the quick reply box... it is a must have!
But there is a problem tril... i'm so used to everything we have on the board... i forget what the hacks are! This is all standard vB, isn't it? ;) :D

I like the mouse-over first post preview. Way cool. If you could tack on a mouse-over last post preview while you're at it I'd be most grateful.

It sure has, expect it to change though mate, I think what they've done is just ripped the icons from M$ and used em while getting the code to work. It wouldn't surprise me if they change to something else for the final release. Notice the "#" and "<?" have wooly white outlines, they will have to be updated at least.

That doesnt surprise me, vBulletin is IE optimised throughout. You can turn the editor on and off though. I guess Netscape users will be stuck with the old system.

This is going to be a *very* major release with a *lot* of huge changes to the basic code. Many of the existing most popular hacks have been re-written and incorporated. I would also think it's likely to be bug-ridden for a while and to be followed by a series of minor point-release fixes.

I know you're all excited about the new software, but I just ran into a new bug and wonder if it's fixed. It's really nothing important, but you can probably check it out.

Working from the "View New Posts" window, you get a button for "Go to first new post" On each line there is a count for "Views" When you click on the "go to first new post" button, the views count increases by two

I really like the "Mark all forums as read" button on the "View New Posts" window, but when you get around to reinstalling it (it doesn't need to be high on the list) put it at the top rather than the bottom. (We talked about that a long, long time ago.)

Did you write any of the hacks being incorporated into the new release, you sly dog?

Martyn

Not exactly Daniel, but they have used their own version of the welcome panel, which was mine and is still the second most insatalled hack after the quick reply box. The developers have been paying close attention to the goings on a vBulletin.org (official hack repository) and some of the admins over there are vBulletin developers, so it follows that the *most popular* stuff is gonna find it's way into the core product sooner or later. If you think about it, it's a marketing dream. Literally hundreds of people writing hacks then a huge online population beta test them and test them for popularity, 6 months later, the most popular find their way into the major release software. I guess you could say there are hundreds (even thousands) of people who have contributed to this release in one way or another.

Bruce, that's been fixed, at least it's fixed in 2.2.9, so it should still be OK for 3.0. ;)

The "mark all forums read" button is also part of the new release in the position you mention. ;)
