What else are you using to cool that tbird with? ie. case fans, etc. Also check to make sure that your hsf is making good contact witht the core of the cpu. IF you have adequate case cooling and the hsf is seated correctly I highly suggest that you get another hsf. The volcano isn't exactly known as a top performer.

65 Degree's F. I'd be ecstatic if I could get my comps running that cold. I assume you mean Celsius? Until you get a better HSF I'd suggest running with the case side off. This will lower your temp considerably.

Assuming 65 C -- that is a bit hot! If the Volcano 2 came mounted already, then I would suggest taking it off and applying thermal paste and remounting it yourself! This way you can ensure good CPU core contact with the heatsink.

Also would agree with leaving the side of you case off and consider investing in a better heatsink (GlobeWin CAK38)

Cruddy thermal goo or a thermal pad can wreck temps, I had a FOP38 that ran 60C with cruddy thermal goo. Radioshack goo lowered it to around 45C (ithink, 120F??)

i got the motherboard sitting out side of the case, artic silver on that badboy......the case is getting switched out tommarow. i hope to get some stability with this. its not overclocked or anything .. what are some of your temps out there? what fan are you using?

1ghz tbird, FOP32 130F full load, 90F ambient

1.3ghz @ 1496 never goes above 110F (watercooled)

450mhz AMD k6-2

10F above ambient

The 450 in upside down (heatsink fan points to floor). Its in a custom made pegboard case. Just about as open as a case can get. I will be adding a back and a large blower (quiet 7 incher)that turns on at cerrtain times.

I know the feeling.... Had the same issue with a FOP38, the factory bubblegum they use just wrecks thermal transfer. Use alchahol to remove it:

1. Drink alchahol

2. Remove bubblegum

Easy!

PS The bubble gum tastes like shit!

TOTALLY agreed! Don't get the two steps reversed!!!

So, anyone know if JuicyFruit convects better than that cruddy tape gum stuff they put on heat sinks these days?!?!? Atleast it tastes better...

Water cooling is great! It gets yer friends to think your a complete nerd, while still being social (unnerdy)

Its great when i get 3 buddoies over and have a mini loan party.

1.4ghz with geforce 1 (my system)
1 ghz (dads system) but peeps get to use it
500mhz lappytop, good for RTS games (we play alot of these) and Diablo 1 and 2

if we need to play a few 3d games, someone will bring a puter, I have an ectra monitor, so no one will have to lug one over.

Most of my friends, with two exceptions, don't know that I know anything about computers... And I keep it that way. ;) Several good reasons:
1) you don't ever want to fix anyone's computer whom you like. When it unfixes itself ten years later and the harddisk break freezes and every speck of data is lost, you'll get a call saying 'WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO MY COMPUTER?!?!'

2) people will naturally assume that you have no social graces

3) you'll be forever doomed to be the person everyone forwards stupid bogus virus warnings to saying 'what do you know about this?':D

Same here... But:-

1) Its usually the case that because YOU touched the computer, you are repsonsible when Word does not get the formatting right, or the printer does not print exactly as the document looks on screen....

This by the way goes for the life of the computer, even if they re-install the OS or another OS....

Or submerse it in mineral water, or beat on it with a five pound hammer, or drop metal filings into the case or put a paperclip into the powersupply or drop it from the top of the Sears Tower...

I have a bird running at 1.4G with a V2. It stays at 46c. This is in a 68f room though.
