What a chip, I just picked this up at the computer show on Saturday. This puppy booted at 166X11 at default voltage to start. I'm going to see how high I can get the FSB on it later this week I'd really like to see if my PC3500 EL OCZ ram is really PC3500 :). not bad for 100 canuck bucks.

What stepping? I am looking at either 2x 1700+ or 2100+ T'Breds to replace a couple of XP1800's pally's. With a bit of luck, I am hoping to hit 166fsb with my Iwill MPX2 :D

I'll up load the scan of my chip tonight. JUICB 0251 I think

How can you check that without popping off the h/s? Can't can you?

This is the bad boy I got.

You got to take off the HS or Scan you CPU before you play with it like I'm starting to do :)
edit oh yeah running at 12X166 right now

Trev, is that an oem chip?

Nice...the JIUCB steppings are meant to be good clockers. I believe the JIUHB are also good steppings.

Yea that's an OEM. I'm getting to be good friends with a retailer so he let me have my pick of 8 he had.
Just working on upping the FSB not that I'm upset with a 166FSB I'd just like it to be better ;)

OK new update Go the beast running at 200 FSB :) it is totally stable for math calculations ran Prime95 torture test for like 8 hours no errors :). My problem lies in the AGP bus. I have set the dividers to 5:2:1 but I get and AGP bus of 100 and a PCI bus of 50 meaning my dividers aren't being interpreted right. For what ever reason my divider is stuck at 4:2:1 I don't get it.....

Sounds like a bios glitch....

What is the motherboard? Are you sure it has a 1/5 divider?
verT
17th February 2003, 10:09
KX7 and yes the 5:2:1 divider shows up and it's selected it just don't work:(

I'd try tech support... but if there's an updated bios i'd go for it.

I am not aware of a single KT333 board that has a working 1/5 divider.

Mike have you tried PCWizard http://www.cpuid.com/pcw.php it apparently shows my PCI bus as being correct as well as my AGP.... That was just a quick test this morning I am going to fiddle around a bit tonight with it.

Just picked up an AXDA1700DLT3C, JIUHB0308SPMW.... currently running at 1873mhz, 17c above ambient, AMD retail cooler  ...... 1.5 vcore  The 12.5(13) and below multipliers are unlocked. Sweet... now if i just had a new board. :D Testing on an 8HKA+, just begging for a multi mod. An AX7 + Vantec Tornado stand by... along with a silver Vantec 4 channel fan controller... phil? Great overclockers think alike? ;)

Battle of the 1700+ anyone? Trying for 2300MHz now at 1.725vcore with the aeroflow heatsink.... :baa:
You got me beat.... but mine is only a JIUCB

I hear the later batches do a bit better... this JIUHB0308SPMW is doing well, but i've read the 0312 is really smokin'! Got this thing stable at (averages) 24c above ambient @ 1.69 vcore. the vcore swings a bit from 1.67 to 1.73. Air cooled at 2300MHz... kudos to the engineers! :)

OMG.... 1.78 vcore(average) 28c above ambient(23c) @ 2401... christ!, when will it end! What a chip! ... I really should start water cooling..... Whatcha think? Go for more voltage? I'm afraid i'll fry this poor bugger!

vcore 1.81 @ 2401 ..... 53c average temps... but still stable..... updates as it progesses....
zhotfire
17th May 2003, 05:13
Damn .... out of beer... overclocking exp halted until further cooling aquired..... :)
Cool, I owuld stop there and make sure it's stable for longer than 24 hours....
Well done!
PS, don't forget you must re-aply the AS every 2 weeks, re-alighn your blue fan-LED's and definately polish the chrome cable ties. :)

I submit a new acronym... WAC!(what a chip!)
An XP1700+ @ 2401MHz ... average 1.80 vcore @ 54c (31c above average room temp)
Air cooling with a Vantec Aerocool.... nice cooler. I like very much.
BUT, .... this is way too hot! Don't know how long it will last... But.... i'm willing to find out.
Official AMD tester i'm not, but i've already warned my retailer.... :) They are slowly coming around to my way of thinking....... shweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! :)
Bah, thats not hot, crank the bar steward up sum more!
zhotfire
17th May 2003, 06:47
Still holding stable 31c above ambient, average 1.81 vcore, 2401MHz air cooled with a stock vantec aerocool. Keep in mind thou this is still on the bench. In a case it may forfit some of its speed and stability. :baa:

Still haven't found the limit... sure i'll find it over the weekend... this is one awesome combo thou! :)
Bah, just go for 5000000Mhz and work back. :)

What all else do you have in the system. Ram, video etc?
I have mine running at 1.8 Ghz currently. We'll keep it here for a bit before I increase anymore. Need to start lowering voltage and see what it runs best at still. Right now it's 12x 150
*edit* Well for some reason I can't go above 150 and 12x. If I up either one of them it boots fine but it reboots about 30 seconds after getting into windows. I've upped the voltage but it didn't help at all. I'm curious if my ram is holding it back. I'm using DDR 2700 Black high performance from Mushkin. Any ideas where my problem might be?

Ti4200
On-board sound (ack!)
2 NICs
TV Card
40 G Fujitsu
2x256 ddr
burner
cdrom
Haven't switched it all over to the new board yet... waiting for a new case. Very solid setup... almost hate to tear it apart.

The ram should be fine, can you increase the chipset voltage? Maybe you got a bum chip?

Heh... seems it doesn't like to be run any higher :( ... i shut the system down and it wouldn't cold boot! Awe.... I've backed it down to keep the temps under 50c... running @2255, 1.67 vcore. The aerocool is only rated for 2800+ TBreds.... need better cooling.... maybe next pay. :)

Well I just read the Soyo KT333 Dragon doesn't have 1/5 or 1/6 divider. I guess these are just ratios. Which one goes to what?
zhotfire
18th May 2003, 17:29
Yeah... i remember reading that somewhere, none of the 333 boards have a higher divider than 1/4, so your pci bus will be running out of spec. You don't have control of multipliers over 12.5 either do you? Looks like a multi mod will be needed. I got lazy and bought a new board! :D

I had 13 and 14x until I just flashed the bios. Now it only goes to 12.5. I oc'd about 300 Mhz, so that will suit me for now I guess.

I hate ABit boards though. I just read that Soyo has an overclocking bios. Might try it and see how it works.

You can set the cpu vcore to almost 3v if you want.... just make sure you disable any smoke detectors so you don't wake anyone up. ;) :D :whatsthatsmell:

Mounted the AX7 + Vantec Tornado to the rig... 9c cooler, but what a racket!!! I dropped the rpms to about 55%(around the same noise level as the Aerocool), temps are only 2-3c cooler than the Aerocool. Sitting at 45c, 1.67 vcore, 2255 MHz. With the Tornado at full throttle the temps are 37-38c (plus the system temp drops 4c), but it's way too noisy... :(

don't worry about the noise - it'll go away in a while. ;)

12x200 @1.625Vcore (MBM reports 1.66v) ran SuperPi to 32m places in 37 minutes. Now testing with DF. Oddly on my 8RDA+ I can't get above 12.5 multiplier which is a shame. I had hoped to mod the bridges to set it to 16x and then use it in my K7S5A which has very limited FSB and no multiplier controls.

Held my first bridge cutting ceremony this morning for the first of the xp1700+.... why didn't i listen when someone said it was easy? 10 seconds and i was done, got it first shot! Said cpu now known as "xp athlon @ 2250mhz"... running at 1.65 vcore, 21c above ambient with the aerocool on an epox 8kha+. Add another 400 mhz to my total! ;) :D
