By looking at Stanford's page, it doesn't look like .99 is beta (or test) anymore. I would like to install it if its a production release.

Reading some of the boards, some are saying a speed pick up in the win version.

Mmkay, I was mainly worried bout the linux version.
I still haven't figured out wether this thing is a test version or not.
Dnar's crash thread has me thinking its not

It would appear that it saves any current units.....
ie - no need to wait till you finish one before upgrading

Ok, thats even better. Anyone know of an estimated date for version 1.0?

I upgraded yesterday. Just did a ctrl-c on the .98 client, installed the .99 files straight over the top and relaunched the client - bingo, .99 running fine and picked up the old WU where .98 left it.
EDIT, sorry, just realised you're talking about the Linux client :o

I just installed it on one comp to test it out first. Picked right up where .98 left off with no configuration needed.
Let me know how the Linux one works out since I will be trying out peguinese next week.

Ok, I'll try it out on my main box (most check on, runs linux) Sunday sometime. I would notice any bugs because I use that box for my other puting fun(web, games, productivity, etc)
If that werks ok, then my other 3 machines will gradually get introduced in this order
1.3ghz (1.5ghz oc, linux, main box)
450mhz amd k6-2 (all genome)
500@550 P!!! (all genome)
1ghz tbird (dads box, mainly genome)

There are two ways to look at it.
Everything before 1.00 is beta -- it's just a public beta.
Stefan did re-release one version which changed the optimization level but not the code. He called one "beta" but said he never should have relrelased the same number and wouldn't do it again. I'm not sure what he's doing about the static vs. dynamic library linking in linux. It is sort of the same type of problem. (0.99b ? ? ?)
I think 0.99 is "production" or "public beta", whichever set of words you want to use.

I realize that all the version less than 1 are beta, just some are more complete than others. There was a tet version of .98 and somewhere the was a very buggy version noone used. It seems by what people are saying, .99 is "production" with few bugs(if any)

Just because software verion is < 1.00 does not mean it is a beta test version. (this is in general Im taking).

I'm going to do a bit on the .99 client on the front page news a little later in the afternoon.
Anyone who has already upgraded to it, can you let me know how it is working so far? Faster, crashing, etc...... want to give everyone a general idea about it.
Post it here or crank me a quickie email at webmaster@skzdalimit.com
TIA

Running .99 client on my work PC... Nonetting for two days with no problems; currently crunching an 88aas.. I'm going to install it on my laptop too (win 2K on both PCs).
Hey Dustin, you have to wait the next update in order to see your units credited; noxordo refreshes the stats each three hours (I think :) ).
GeeK!

Make that 4 boxes! What are the odds of four computers crashing on the same day?
I suppose I was overdue, I hadn't had one crash in alomst a month.
BTW- It seems to take up tp 6hrs for units to filter through.

I presume you mean statistics. Yes, Stanford publishes the informaion every 3 hours -- and it is not from the previous 3 hour period. Thus statistics nomrally take from 3 to 6 to show up. All the 3rd party statistics engines which digest that data and present it in nicer formats with improved history, etc. start from that same "official" data and generally add a small amount more processing time before you see it.
It sort of puts the statistics in the proper perspective (vs. Berkeley, where considerable server power goes into providing realtime statistics). Science comes first. (Though I'm often frustrated, personally, because I want it NOW :p )

Hehe...I woke up this morning to find my dual PIII and T-Bird system not running. It seems the wifey "accidently" switched my machines off. How kind
