Can you actually air cool a Peltier in reality? I have an Alpha 6035 on my PIII 850@952 and as the hotter months of summer are here it is hitting 122F. Mostly its about 116F. Too dam hot!
Any ideas?

I'd kill to be running 116F...

You can use a peltier with the PAL6035. A peltier rated at 70-80W will be perfect for the PIII and you will see some very good temps....for example, I was running a PIII700@1050 with 80W pelt and Alpha PAL6035 - my full load temps never went above 10C. Do not go over 80W with the peltier as the Heatsink now has to get rid of 80W (from the pelt) + CPU wattage (probably around 30W). To do this you are going to NEED a delta fan and good airflow through the case. A peltier will put out a lot of heat into the case and that will have to be removed very quickly in order to keep the cooling system efficient.

You are also going to need to insulate your motherboard against condensation...a good guide can be found here (http://www.octools.com/articles/socket_condensation/intro.html).

You will also need a 300W power supply at the very least that can provide 12A@12V (check sticker on side of ps) and I would recommend that you do a lot of research on peltiers before you even attempt to use one...Tellurex (http://www.tellurex.com/resource/intro.htm) and Peltier info (http://www.peltier-info.com) are excellent guides and Overclockers.com (http://www.overclockers.com) have working examples.

Both tril0Byte and myself have a lot of experience with peltiers and will be happy to answer any further questions.

Yup, what Phil says...

I wrote up a little comparison of pelts/Alphas a while ago. I got published on overclockers.com and won me $100 :)

Here ya go..

Wow, thanks for all the info guys. I see it will take a bit of work to minimize condensation with a peltier setup. I will read more before I dive into it. There was a great article at Octools but they seem to be down at the moment. Oh well. Thanks again!
