I was jammin' along to my single un-amped stereo speaker hooked to the haedphone jack on one of my crunchers when my eyes fell upon my first ever speakers that went with our now in the dump 486. A thoguht entered my mind... WHat if I hacked it just a wee bit? :D

I had two matching stereo speakers from our first CD player/tape/radio deck combo thingie. I grabbed the one on the shelf, and unsodlered the connector on the one hooked to the CD-ROM. I then carefully extracted the speakers from the old crappy multimedia set and did soem sodlering.... A new transformer and a replaced capacitor and all is well now! The amp board has bass and treble boost, along with the volume to make everything dandy. It doesn't get super loud or anything, but at least now I can turn it up a bit to compensate fro the washing machine running in the basement :D

I'm thinking this new speaker system is going to be somehow related to my basement TV-hooked-to-computer and wireless keyboard and mouse setup for playing games :D

Nice Hack.

Hey let me know how u do with that setup. I still want to replace my entertainment center with a computer and a TV. Not to mention that it would be 1 more cruncher in the ol`pad.:D

Ok, so far ithas been wroking good. I can'thear any distortion, andI can't really do any tests for that right now. For an entertainment center, you may want to build an amplifier kt or a cheap amp. The setup i'm using now doesn't get blastingly loud, but it gets loud enough that it isn't really comfortable. I woulnd' want to drive an super speakers with it either. Who knows what that poor little board was spec'ed for. :D

Putting all that aside, works great! Plus the treble and bass boosts are nice. Much better than straight out of the soundcard/cd-rom
