Who makes a hsf that utilizes the 4 mounting holes around the socket. I kjnow that swiftech makes one and that Alpha does also (although I've only seen the Alpha on the HardOCP review). Who else uses the holes?

That's it as far as I am aware...will a P4 hs work with the Socket A format? I think the holes are in the same place.

I think thart they are slightly different seeing as I have seena mounting kit for a Swifty to go onto a P4 mobo. Here it is:

Dammit this is so tempting but I need one that utilizes the mounting holes. Ah the heck with it anyone got either one of these HSF for sale?? I have one courtesy of Hemi already but I need it since it is being used on a mobo with broken tabs. A friend owes me a favor and is willing to trade me a 1.33gig for it but it will mean having a comp down for a bit. Hmm time to check out the other forums to see if anyone has one for sale. Help me out if you have one since it will be working for the cause!!:D

The reason for the different harware, is a P4 HSF screws into the mainboard tray below the mainboard, but the AMD 4 post HSF mounts directly on the mainboard.

Just a hint for a cheesy mounting for the "broken tab" mainboard. I have a FOP-38 mounted, by using 8ea small tie-wraps, hooked up in 2 rectangles through the mounting holes. By sinching very carefully, I get full pressure without cracking the core of my Duron.

Of course, if you're crazy enough to do this like me, It's at your own risk.

Duron 800 @ 1000Mhz 1.85v Vcore
Ambient 26c Mainboard 27c CPU 48C (Full load Genome of course.)

Highest it has ever been (That I've seen.) is 52C (And I'm only running the FOP-38 fan at 7v.)

That's an idea that I have thought about Rick. I also jerry-rigged a hold down device for it prior to the swifty but it retained too much heat for my liking. Specs of it were using 2 threaded rods with a metal bar going over the hsf to retain it and tightened down with wingnuts.

You could try some thing metal bars that have holes on each end and stcik em between the fins.

oh no not more of Mech's mad (bad) ascii skillz
