Not sure how this will affect linux now or future builds but there may be some legal problems (http://news.com.com/2100-1016_3-999371.html) coming down the pike for linux.

This is exactly along the lines of the reply I was about to write, but he said it before me (NOTE: I copy those lines with full credit to the author :D :D :D )
And taking the offensive, Perens added, "Copying works both ways. I want to see some proof they haven't copied Linux source code into SCO Unix."
That being said, SCO has the oportunity to "compare" the code because it's open source... who know's what "other" proprietary code out there did the same thing, but you can't prove it since they don't share their code. Either you reverse engineer it... but that would be dismissed in court because it's illegal; either you steal the code from one hottie programmerette (:D) you dated, but then that too would be dismissed...
Someday, if Bush declares war on dangerous terrorist lawyers, I'm moving to Florida, and I'm voting for him, twice!

"To the extent that there is copyrighted code in the Linux operating system borrowed from Unix, I think these companies have a problem," Ferrell said. A copyright infringer could be forced to pay $100,000 per infringement and reimburse the copyright holder for lost profits, Ferrell said.
So is this true?
I think a movie could be made of this about how corps stomp the little man and the little man fights back and wins. Oh wait ... thats been done :D
I really do enjoy the open source movement and would not like to see it challenged from a legal point of view. I think the community needs to make sure that no copy code crap goes on and the policing needs to be done by the community and not the legal community
