Hi ~
I broadcast a weekly show here in Milton Keynes, UK every Friday evening.
But even tho we're only heard on the cable network in MK I record my live
mix and re-broadcast it the following Monday via our local internet station
www.rfmk.co.uk
I also offer FREE cd mixes from my show too, so if anyone is interested in
hearing / seeing what i'm up to then visit my musical world

Thanx

Thanx ~
I am one of the few on our wee station who are prepared to
do our bit to offer folks an alternative to the bland diet available
elsewhere on UK radio.
Our studio is right next door to "Bettermusicmix" FM Hell too
but we soldier on in our own sweet. but slightly twisted way!
It's an open offer for those who would like a mix of their choice
from my archives so if your in Sri Lanka or Alaska I am happy to
send you a Gardening Mix.

I mix LIVE ! when I go in on a Friday night I have a rough idea of where
i'm heading but the mix kinda grows itself.
Sometimes, when the planets are in allignment etc and the sponteniety can
get my creative juices flowing I can mix up a storm. I personally like to theme
things too so when current affairs are interesting enough ~ death of Diana,
Twin Towers disaster, new football season, erm, sex, drugs whatever, then
I dig into my library & mix the tunes with topical soundbites.
My recent mix on Dreams was v popular and is a personal fave. I had the mic
up live and used a short wave radio to link various ambient electronic records
with spoken word samples of dream experiments {from a bizarre Canadian LP}
along with snippets of records about dreams & children talking about their nightmares
etc, it was "one of those nights"
It probably seems a bit iffy to most people to be giving cds away in this age of greed
but it's only a cd and does'nt cost much but certainly seems to entertains folks.
If you like what you hear from the freebie then I appreciate being sent blanks & some
postage. I have found out recently that I can fit 12 MIXES onto one cd in MP3 format
but they can only be played on your comp but the normal cds I burn are player compat.
Hope this explains my methods more, therein madness lies...

Cool, I'll be checking you out this Friday.
You have to do a Ninja Tune mix
Head Gardener
16th July 2003, 15:14
You can only check me out online at www.rfmk.co.uk on a Monday
eve from 8pm GMT.
I broadcast to the city of Milton Keynes via it's cable network only
on a Friday, thats probably why I can get away with the stuff I do
coz most radio stations in UK would never allow me the freedom
to experiment the way I do.
I should add that a lot of the material I use is of an adult nature
too and that the copyright nightmare of my samples & links would not
be everyones cuppa tea sir. Which is why it's been MK's secret for so
long I guess...

I did an Ninja Mix in May ~ it was "ok"
but I respect the label perhaps too much & did'nt really muck about
with their tunes on the night.
Its a live thing, if i'm not 100% happy with the mix I don't list it on the site
{hence the NTune Mix absence from my Mix page} But the Leaf records
and Warp records mixes come with a seal of approval.

DC: Distributed Computing. Folding, Genome, Distributed Folding, that sort of stuff.

Yeah that was going to be my next ?, how can you get away with doing mixes being a legit operation, to bad for me I live in the US cause I would love to hear a good mix live. I'll listen in Monday.
I grew up listening to the Industrial Detroit sound, they know how to mix it up too. I can understand if you could not do a Ninja Tune mix up to your capabilities because of restraints. I know it would be awesome.
Btw, what brings you to TGC anyway? You going give TGC a plug on your station? :D

DC is what we do here. The Genome Collective is a bunch of folks who use thier computers to help projects out like Folding at Home (http://foldingathome.stanford.edu), Genome at Home (http://genomeathome.stanford.edu), and Distributed Folding (http://www.distributedfolding.com/). Check it out, it's the best thing you can do with your computer.

OK a bit of history... my station CRMK has been going 25 years in Milton Keynes,
a new city built in the mid 70's halfway between London & Birmingham.
The city was layered with the cable technology so hence our radio station,
which is run entirely by volunteers.
We have thrived here in MK but only recently stepped onto the net and even
then we still don't broadcast outside the city but only my show has any real
web presence so far.
I started my site a year ago {this week funnily enuff as it was a birthday prezzie
from my girlfriend} so from that you can guess its my birthday this weekend, ha !
We are totally legit but cable has different guidelines for broadcasting so after 10pm
anything goes really, within reason of course.
I have pushed my luck a few times over my 11 years here and have received various
warnings for too much sex/violence etc ~ but its the records guv, not me !
The mixes I broadcast from here on a Monday on our local net station www.rfmk.co.uk
are usually a copy of the previous weeks show but with this weeks show being my
Radiohead interview I really can't be arsed with putting it out on the net coz its dull..dull..dull..
I would much rather make a music mix available to be honest.
One of the crosses I have to bear is having to do interviews with some terminally dull popstars
as a way off getting more listeners to tune in locally and then I got em !! haharrr !
But really, does the world need to listen to grumpy folks gabbing on about their new Lp ? erm no.
I will check out the links above, thanx, and yes of course I will be BIG upping the Genome
Collective on the show. I stumbled across this forum quite by accident too so respect to you all
for a fine site, I have hardly scratched the surface so far.

Thanx again ;) but with all my posts today I have yet to receive
one mix request from anyone here so maybe I just freaked you all out !
I hope someone will tho coz it kinda defeats the purpose of what I am
supporting
do I come across as a bit ooh.. a bit ahhh ???

I think you are a first, you push your way in here and posting all crazy like...I don't know you might have scared some off. <jk> :D
Oh I was thinking of the Garden of Atlantis and Twin Towers Memorial mix but I was going to wait till after your show on Monday. You see, I have to sample the goods. :D Those mixes are availible?

How about some kind of Led Zeppelin mix? :)

Hehe, yeah sorry about just steaming onto your forum like that,
I never meant to be rude. If I did freak anyone out then accept
my apollos. I can see your point about wanting to listen online
first but I plan on broadcasting my Kelly Joe Phelps session mix
this Monday. It has recently proved to be very popular since I posted
a msg about it on the KJP website. Ha ! KJP fans sure aint shy in coming
forward and requesting a mix cd.
Its a chilled session too, mostly Blues of course with a sad songs twist.
You may not have heard of many of the band names but trust me, you
would'nt be disappointed. I have been doing the show so long I would not
mix in tunes I think folk would have a hard time getting into, it would
defeat the purpose of the mix. I try to "go with the flow" as it were.
Its one of the reasons I dont dwell too much on the oldies like Zep / Floyd etc
much as I love & respect em, I find it more satisfying using either elements
of their work { linking other trax with snippets of recognisable segments
eg the talking inbetween songs from the live LPs or remixes of their trax
which I track down } The Beatles track 'Lucy Stoned In Church' for example
is just Lucy' played on a church organ !
I get sent so much new stuff I actually find it hard to keep up with it but
the older stuff has its place, just not in my face ! If you wanna hear REALLY
heavy then head towards the Halloween or Electric Brew mixes.
The Twin Towers mix too is a bit heavy obviously, considering the subject
matter but it was mixed & broadcast live in the week of the event itself and
is peppered with Bush, Powell soundbites which has turned it into a bit of
a time capsule. There are even Pink Floyd samples in there !!
The Atlantis mix is a peach as its all timed to run with the movie itself so
if you can track down a copy on video this is THE soundtrack, well its a damn
sight better than the one it came with.
Cheers ;)

OK Head G, I listen to your show and I really liked the mixes played: Gentleman's Smoking and KJP session mix. I see everything is fair game music wise in your mixes. I grooved on the KJP session mix (like a movie sound track) but Gentleman's Smoking mix is more to my liking.
