When cutting my 120mm hole in the front of my case, the speed control died right after i finihsed. I replaced the brushes right before I started,,a nd i checked them again after, they are OK. the manual doesn't say how to take it apart and clean the reostat. Is it the reostat that needs cleaning? How do i open this thing up to clean it?

Don't know about taking apart the reostat but look at the rotor and see if it is dirty. (Since it started then died)

It doesn't really "die", the speed control doesn't werk. It on full blast or off.

What is a dremel?

Mine is a Sears (craftsman) high speed rotary tool.

Its like a drill that doesn't look like a gun, its straight. It spins much faster than a drill (30k rpm vs a drills 15k).

You can get several attachments (like drill bits) to stick in the end. The attachments spin :D.

Sanding block, flapwheel, several types of cutting wheels, small drill bits, sanding drums in 3 sizes, engraving bits, polishing wheels, wire brushes, and several more. Dremel makes then and so does Sears (Sears and Roebuck, "Craftsman" brand on tool, sears has a lifetime warranty on tools, not sure bout electric ones)

I use reinforced cutting wheels for cutting cases, and then a flapwheel or sanding drum to deburr the cut.

Okay, I thought it ran for awhile then died. Misread.
I've got one just a battery powered one (two speed) and can't help by looking at mine.

just noticed Craftsman Bring it back. They are good at returns.

Do ya think they would get me another one? I don't have the receipt, but it s a Craftsman from Sears........ Hmmm, would I need the box?

I have had stuff replaced by Sears, but they were hand tools, like a chipped screwdrivers and a rachet that lost a ball bearing, I just don't know bout powertools.

I would rather try cleaning the reostat, but I dont know where to start cleaning/disassembling

OK. All clear now. I thought it was a new computer thing. If I was you I would call Sears. I thought all Craftsman were gauranteed for life.

I have had a lot of luck bringing stuff in with out a sales ticket or box. I'm not sure about power tools but it would be worth the try.

I don't think the power tools work that way, but give it a shot anyhow. I bought my Craftsman dremel in a shrink-wrap package, it was one that someone had returned (under warranty) and they swapped it out for a new one and refurbed the old. Most of their power tools have a 1 year replacement warranty. I paid an extra $8 for another year on my 16.8V drill...

I think it has been less than a year, but I have no receipt. You'd think the tool itself would be enough of a receipt.

"Yes I bough it at Sears, its a Craftsman!"

"How can you be sure you bought it here?"

"Sears is the only place where you can get Craftsman tools!!!"

You can also buy Craftsman Tools at Western Auto stores.

You can also buy them on most military bases now, at the BX/PX's. ;) I don't buy them on base, because they never go on sale like they do at Sears. That's the only time I buy tools, when they're dang near clearance prices...
