A REPORT on Mandrake's web site suggests that there are some unexpected problems occurring running the OS in connection with Lucky Goldstar (LG) CD-ROMs.
But the real question is whether it's the software or the hardware at fault – so we guess LG has to battle it out with the software vendors.
According to the Mandrake web site, there is potential hardware damage that happens when LG CD-ROMs are used with 9.2 of the OS.
Mandrake says that LG doesn't either support or test with Linux operating systems – a strange omission on the Korean hardware firm's behalf, we'd suggest.
The Mandrake web site, which you can read here (http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/errata.php3#badlg) says there is no solution or workround for LG based drives on its Linux 9.2.
It clearly warns that you should not install Mandrake Linux 9.2 on any PC containing an LG CD-ROM drive or it will damage your CD-ROM drive.
