Will have to look at Ultimate and see.

I'm an admin over at folding-community which uses phpBB. It seems like a very good product. (I know nothing about installation or customization - - I'm just use it a lot and have access to the admin functions.) We're not on the latest rev (which does have some nice features, I'm told.)

I thought they used vbulletin over there. This now makes phpbb an impressive product...and it is open source:)

Still on phpBB 2.0.3

. . . although WW has been trying to get time to rebuild / re-customize phpBB 206. . .

Send him a PM and ask his opinion.

Thanks Bruce.

If phpBB can handle that amount of traffic I think I will be ok with my small project.

Well I went with phpBB. Now I am an Admin of my own forum and let me tell u it sucks. I have no time do anything. Hope things will get moving when the site is up 100%. I have paid credit to TGC for the help I have received from over the year and several months I have been a member. Thanks to all.

I am using phpBB here (http://www.deadairwaves.com) . Let me know if I can help. This is our test site to iron out the bugs before we start paying for a dedicated server and actually start streaming content.

Thanks for the offer. Everything is ok for now running phpBB 2.0.8. I am thinking about switching to PNphpBB for the user upload capability.

I am running both on my websites.
phpBB 2.0.8 is running @ BoiseRC.com and PNphpBB is running @ BoiseRobotics.com. BoiseRobotics.com will be going away. It never went anywhere. ( This is a long story)

I will keep an eye on your site. Looks good. Best of luck.

I have had no problems using http://f5hosting.com/ running the robotics site. They are great to work with. I am using the Bronze package.

I like F5 too. I also have the same package.

I was trying to set up coppermine Tuesday, but I have been having some problems getting it installed. I haven't messed with it too much because of the lack of electricity and cable over the last couple of days.

There are mods available for phpBB for attachments and uploading if you happen to like phpBB better than PNphpBB. I haven't used PNphpBB so I don't know what other differences there are. I have successfully installed some admin mods on my phpBB setup.

I've been trying to figure a way to do ranks based on time as a member rather than number of posts. Or maybe based on word count. I just don't want a lot of one liners and smilies cluttering up the board from people who just want to see their rank increase.

What is coppermine? Another BB?

We're hosting with IPowerWeb right now. Anyone know anything about them that I should know?

It's a pretty cool opensource image gallery.

I would like to give coppermine a try. It seems to work well for all who use it.

I think there is a way to use PNphpBB with Post Nuke and Coppermine running out of a single database.

There is not much difference between PNphp that I can see. U have a little better control from the Admin side but this is how phpBB will be with the new version.

The image upload mod takes some time and experience and I think this is what turns most people off.
The reason I have not gone through with the upload mod on my one site is the storage requirement. Of course u can pull from another site but if u ever have to move the site it would be a nightmare.

Take a look at Post Nuke. U might find it helpful for your site. The other popular software is Mamba. I have not really looked into it. It seems people are divided 50/50 with maybe Mamba taking a slight lead.
