I want to set my mp3 directory (also a mount) to write and read by all. it keeps setting it to read all, write only with root (0755)
I need it to be 0777 for samba and general mp3in'
I set it to 0777 with Gnome File Manager and webmins file amager, but it keeps setting it back. der
Hmm, I recall somethin' bout chmod does ths, but I cna't remebr if thats the right command

/etc/fstab
-------
/dev/hd9 /mount_point auto noauto,user,exec 0 0
The "user" bit is what you require.

whats auto and noauto?

auto in the 3rd field, indicates auto filesystem type detection (typical for floppy drives) Will detect FAT12, ext2 etc.
noauto in the 4th field ensure the mount is not auto-mounted at boot. Again, typical for floppy and cd drives. Also handy for offline harddisk storage.

I have sort of the same problem. I set my Genome099_linux dir as a public dir so I could monitor what is going on from my Win Machine. I Chmod all the files in the dir to 777 and ran Ghclient.x
All went well for a while. Now everytime I get something new to chrunch the input.* file permissions get changed and I cannot access them unless I chmod them to 777. Anyway around this?

Yes, if the client directory and client programs are given user ownership and permissions, the resulting work will belong to root..... I have not found a way around this.

maybe setting umask because files are writing with a umask that is 755 rather than 777?

I don't have a Linux machine in front of me, and my memory is faded, so bear with me Linux and Dnar, but...
Is there any way to use the "sticky bit" to make this work for you? Maybe on the "ghclient"?

Ummm no. Full scout iniform, class A, with nckerchief and OA Ordeal sah. Our OA dress (for those in the ceremonies) is that of the northern tribes. No loincloths. Pants, shirts or vests, or no shirt.
Back in 69, did they cut actually cut? (can't go into further detail beacuse of the secrecy of this organization)
Wbierman, have you seen the arrow?
