Would anyone have some suggestions for good backup software? I recently procured a couple of Seagate Travan drives, a TR-4 (4/8gig) and a TR-5 (10/20gig). They are both in a Wip-XP rig, along with a Sony DVD burner and another CD burner.

I tried installing a copy of Veritas Backup Exec 9, but it was giving my some grief about incorrect passwords and permissions. I didn't feel like farting with it so I installed my trusty old copy of Backup Exec Desktop 4.5. It sees the tapes just fine but it won't even list the burners as devices. I would like the option of using them all if I wanted. I also have a similar problem with my work W2K machine and it's CD burner.

Is Windows Backup any good? I didn't know it would work with tape drives until I popped in one of these used TR-4s and Veritas said it was set up for Windows Backup.

Windows Backup sucks. It requires a whole shedload of services to be running and gets all antsy if you want to use a tape that <gasp>already has data on it</gasp>
