Hi everybody (Dnar):

Installed Mandrake 8 Linux (Dual boot with current Win98SE install.). Used new "LILO graphical boot" option.

Upon restarting, just get Lo1o1o1o1o1oo1o1o1oo1o1o1o1o11o1o1o11o1o1o1o1o11o1 o1o1o1o1o1o11o1o1o1o11o1o... you get the idea! :(

Boot from Linux floppy and system hangs at initializing USB.

FDisk /mbr with Win98SE startup disk so I can get back into Windows and post this. As far as the USB goes, I imagine it is that fact that my system has 2 USB controllers onboard and it is getting confused. I'll disable one tomorrow and try it.

The big question, How do I fix the LILO problem?
Is the graphical LILO and 98 boot records too big together for the MBR?

Cya, Rick

I had that problem once, but it wasn't because of a graphical boot loader... you might be able to find a solution with a search on "LILO errata"... where's dnar? Maybe his fingers are bandaged?

Arggg. I had a similar prob once, but I just got: LI

Someone stole my LO...... It turned out to be a f*&^cked kernel image. Yep, a Windows re-install did it.

Good advice Rick, use a root-and-boot floppy to get on and check things out. Maybe your /boot partition is corrupt? Use e2fsck to check it out.

PS. if you don't have a Linux boot floppy, use a bootable CD, RedHat you can boot into "rescue".

I use "tomsrtvt", I can't find a link for it, but's its pretty popular.

Well, got the USB and sound problems sorted out, just had to shuffle the IRQ's around a bit. It makes it tougher when all your PCI and AGP slots are full :)

As far as redoing the LILO, I've manually configured it before so that won't be a problem. I have a Microshaft 2000 CD here, probably am going to copy an image onto the C drive and use the NT boot manager for a triple boot system.

I may want to play with Linux, but it's all NT at work, so I have to keep up on that too.

I have a sound problem too. COurse it has nothing to do with Linux, yet. Everytime I load new software I have to tell the computer where the sound drivers are then restart so it works.

I have had that problem in the past too!. The fix for it is here (http://www.linux.org/)
