Egad Vermine! You do realise there's a reason those analogue guages are colored red at the right hand side :)
Maybe you should tell us what you have for a CPU and cooling. We might be able to give you some good advice that'll kepp your CPU from frying :o

LOL... I think it's a P3-550, not overclocked with a POS fan...
He's my relative and all he need to do is to bring it here to get it fixed (and overclocked too :D) I bet the HSF is just not properly seated...
I also told him another solution, make my sister's cats disappear and vac the fans, it should help :D

Hey Matrix, I've got a PIII 550Mhz in my daughters machine that won't OC due to the excessive heat as well (small world.). Since she's on it 24/7 I haven't fixed it up yet. Do you have any suggestions for a HSF replacement for that stock piece of crap HSF.

hehe.. i know but oh well.. i don't care.. if the CPU burn, i'll have to buy a AMD 1100 like MaTriX so he can overclock it to 1350.. :) Good part for the sad part of loosing a CPU... ;) So if it burn i would be happy.. :) *but shhhht!* You say that to MaTriX's sister and she will kill me...
If you guys don't have any news from me for 48 hours, send the police..... !!!!
BTW, i have a P3-500 not Overclocked and it's a Slot CPU, but a simple Ball Bearing Air Fan...

Rick, if you are using a Slot 1 550 - an Alpha P3125 is the absolute best. I had a 550 coppermine that ran all day long at 825MHz (150fsb) and full load was never over 38C.

Well, my 500 never wanted to go over 560, and this have nothing to do about overheating... If you're lucky and have a good stepping, thanks god... Some don't overclock at all... Others are just awesome...

Der me KATMAI (not a coppermine, most 500-600 P!!! are) won't do past 560mhz, but it boots at an amazing 624mhz!
Alpha goodness

Hi Ferretwulf, have you tried to overclock that CII600? They are quite good overclockers and it should run at 900 pretty easily. I have mine cranked at 1035Mhz (115fsb) with a FOP32. It will run higher, but my HD starts to complain about the high fsb. In fact, I may slap on a pelt and try for 124fsb (for the 1/3 PCI divider).

Hello, Phil. The CII600 I have is a cB0 stepping chip that does not oc worth a damn. It was a freebie so I cannot complain.

Hehe, ok....I thought they were all cC0's. You must have been unlucky

The cB0 stepping chips were made up to 700MHz CIIs, including 600, 633, 667, and 700. cC0 steppings crossed as 566 on up, so both steppings exist in the mid range.
I have had that particular chip for quite awhile. It was given to me as a freebie as a pre-tested failure from an online shop owner who I work for part-time.
