I don't buy much music any more, too old, too out of touch, but I bought a CD today and I will be taking it back as soon as I can. It is the latest CD by Will Young and it says in very small letters that it has BMG Copy Control enabled. Now I'll admit it plays fine on my CD player (from which I'm currently recording it to MiniDisk as is my right).

But when I put it in my computer to listen to it at work, it requires my to install a specific player to be able to listen to it which given my work PC is not my property is an unacceptable request.

If I try to rip it so I can listen to it on my MP3 player on my way to work, it records with deliberate white noise so as to be useless. Why? All the iPod users out there and the like aren't allowed to copy their own music to a.n.other medium?

I cry Bullshit!

Now I am sure there are many ways to get round this so what's the point?

How about cheaper cd's which only work in some devices, or pay more for ones that would work in cars or pc's. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3915499.stm) :banghead: :banghead:

Well, purely for research purposes, all it took to rip this CD without any of the noise was to use Free CD-DA Extractor 4.8. So what's the point of half-assed copy-control? I guarantee there will be a widespread refusal to buy CDs with this kind of copy-prevention and how will an "artist" respond to seeing his CD not sell.

"Hey we stopped your CD being available on P2P!"

"No you didn't! But you sure as hell stopped me getting to number 1!! Where the &^$% are my royalties?"

I see the U.K. has made mod chips for the PS2 illegal.

The UK's socialist government appears determined to make pretty much everything illegal

Everything would be so much easier if the record companys would get with the program. The pr0n industry is on the leading edge when it comes to content delivery over the web. Interesting if not a bit ironic that it's the record co execs that have something stuck up their butts!

With all the hoopla and stuff we may have going in the congress this year Senator Orrin Hatch said he will do something this year.

To kill P2P file sharing. :baa: ;) :D
By enacting a law permitting persons or corporations to be held liable for infringing acts "that they intend to induce." (VCR 's manufacturer's were originally being threatened with the same type of legislation.) He was the one who suggested last year allowing viruses to prevent illegal downloading (http://www.internetnews.com/xSP/article.php/3385291) last year as good idea. :banghead:
