For 2 of my crunchers, i am wondering if removing the psu cover is a bad idea. They are kinda loud and I might be able to remove the coverr and place the fan differently or hope that the main blower in the rear will cool it enough (no psu fan).
Considering how close the PSUs are to the mobo and cpu, it seems like it would be a bad idea :) , but i'm not a power supply master

Me was thinking of yhat too. I mess with these puters with the power on (move fan around and plop heatsinks on stuff that needs it) i can just see me moving a fan around and the power cord snags something in the PSU. Stupid me, NEVER RUN A POWERSUPPLY WITHOUT THE COVER ON! I haven't yet and most likely never will.

Very good idea Mech. If the cover is off the power should be off.

Hmm, if the PSU cover is offf, I should find myself a proper capacitor discharging device :) or melt a screwdriver to the caps :D

That would be mean to mr(s) kitty.
I actually haven't done that with a PSu cap yet..... I did it with a 1000uf one though, doesn't melt, only a very TINY spark, has to be dark to see it
EDIT : thats a 16v one, not a 500v one......
