That is weird...it sounds like a software clash. How many other programs are running? Are you running Win98 or ME? When was the last time you re-installed Windows and how much other programs to you have installed?

Win98 is notoriously flakey when you start intalling a few other programs. I would not recommend anybody run anything other than Win2K/XP in the Windows series.

i have about 4 programs running (yes that includes background progs wylie)
i have only the necessisities installed - office xp, genome etc

the probs started after i reformatted (is it possible i haven't installed iexplorer properly?) and its also crashing opera 5 (which i just installed this weekend)

if its the reformat you're talking about, nothing has been the same since i did it.

sure its running a lot faster and i no longer have all that crap taking up cycles or hard space, however, simple programs are no longer working the way they used to.

for instance i cant get audio catalyst to work (i lost the crack), Heroes 3 wont work either (shock horror - can u help me with that? ive tried everything to get it to work)

ive done a botch job of it :(
can u have a look at it for me please?????
when you're no longer busy that is

Because you did a reformat/reinstall any and all upgrades you may have applied now need to be reapplied.
Dont know why audiocatalyst wont work but considering its a cracked version anyting is possible.
Heroes may not work because you dont have updated video drivers or possible the correct version of DirectX (required by games for video etc)

I would recomend you pop along to windows update and grab all the updates available then give your problematic programs another try.

FWIW: I know you have roxio 5 (because you borrowed it off me:)
It will rip songs from CD for you so give that a try if you don'e end up getting audiocatalyst to work.

Hmmm.
I thought you were gettin pissed of with 2k wylie. The crashes you were having etc etc no stability etc etc.
Thats the reason you told me you wanted to install linux for stability and run windows via win4lin or vmware.(also to play with linux)

Now you are trying to convice shubles to use Win2k can I now assume you are no longer having any issues with your win2k install:confused:
Or are you just a vicous nasty person who wants shubbles to have more troubles:D

errr........wha????
I told you crashes were due to faulty jumpers & ide connectors.
I also said I didnt want to get XP but rather try linux due to the product activation stuff, not that I was getting pissed off with w2k. Dont confuse a grumble about isolated incidents with total disgust for the whole package. Never met anyone who didnt complain about some aspect of a computer before.

Ahhh . Ok a little confusion there :)

When you referred to XP I thought you ment Office not windows XP. I myself dont even want XP (windows that is) at the moment as it offers me nothing over what I already have.
Although I may install it on my new laptop (order it yesterday)

PIII 1.13Ghz
128M ram
20G HDD
32M DDR Geforce 2
15.1' screen
8X DVD
and the usual laptop stuff. Should be delivered in 2 weeks :D :D :D :D :D
