Okay close to Stall's overheat. My son-in-laws amd 1gig was having problems. He brought it over and the cpu seemed to be running hot. (Stock single fan not overclocked) Pulled the fan and found the pad had melted. Scraped off the excess from the cpu. cleaned the heatsink, put grease on and re-installed. At present in 74 f ambient it is running 41 c. So it is not doing too bad. But I would like to drop the temp some, suggested a better fan just to be sure plus talked him in to clocking it some when we get it squared away. But one thing I'm not sure about. Should I try to get the melted pad from the area around the cpu or not worry about it? And if remove suggestions other then a steady hand? (BTW, have it at the house running gh 24/7 till fixed.):D

My suggestion is to keep having problems with it...
Alcohol removes the gunk quite nicely and evaporates quickly. Don't drink tooo much, though...:D

Alchocol works ok. I use electrical contact cleaner. That stuff is awesome! It will literally just melt a pad off.

Well, I know Jack Daniels will eat the finish off of anything, but I wouldn't want the residue that's left on my core :)

well, there's two ways to accomplish the same task -
Use Isopropyl (denatured) or drink enough whisky that it cleans itself off the chip. Either way works.;)

Denatured alcohol. Now you tell me, but a least its a HaPPPY computer. :D
Got some contact cleaner and crocus cloth.

Spray tuner-cleaner is also super. Totally non-conductive, dries almost instantly and is just hell on glues...

The contact cleaner I got is pretty good. No residue. I can't believe we didn't have any alcohol around. BTW it cleaned off good. Now a little watching on temps and may rev it up a little.

Once a girl broke my heart and I went up to my good friend Jack and asked him if he could help me forget her. He took one look at me and said sh*t son I can make you forget how to walk...
