Seems that OS-X has a few vulnerabilities and, in classic fashion, (cr)Apple is fixing them without being very forthcoming about the details. Funnier still is the reaction to a Mac luser upon being advised his religion had a dangerous flaw or two in the latest Tiping Point update.

Grammar, syntax, and spelling only add to the fun.

Description: Apple released a security update for Mac OS X that addresses
a number of vulnerabilities. The important issues that are fixed by this
update are a buffer overflow in CoreFoundation that can be triggered by a
specially crafted URL, and remote code execution flaws in Safari browser.
The technical details required to exploit the flaws have not been posted
publicly yet.

Status: Apply the update released by Apple on November 29, 2005.

Council Site Actions: A few of the council sites are running the affected
software. One site is deploying the update now; several other sites will
deploy after they complete the QA process.
Note to readers (from Alan). You may have noticed the inclusion of Mac OS X
in the SANS Top 20 and the resulting outcries. We though you might enjoy
the following note from someone who apparently believes that Mac security
should never be questioned. I've changed some words to **** in case your
kids see it. Otherwise it is exactly as we received it:

"Pure FUD. Clearly your a mindless ****ing shill. There are already
links exposed between your site and Symantic. You and I both know
there have been ZERO exploits on OS-X and NO remote exploits are yet
possible. Quit lying scum bag.

I suppose liars are what make up the landscape in your business but in
the Mac world lying shysters like yourself are excoriated. Your type
of scumm would last one day in the Apple universe and your company's
life support would be eliminated. Stick to the sewer of Windows et al
where liars are the norm.

Mac users will look after themselves we don't want nor need your bull
**** spewed upon our pristine land. Keep your head firmly up the virus
writers and patchers *** holes it's where you belong."

The fact is that there Mac is a lot safer than Windows, but there are
critical vulnerabilities in Mac OS and they are being exploited.

Denial: One mondo river in Africa.

That's funny. The sad thing is that there a whole lot of people out there like that. Hopefully, with attitudes like that, they are smokers and drinkers and we shouldn't have to suffer them for very long.

<dropping my smoldering cigarette but into the half-empty mug of flat beer sitting in the empty pizza box beside my bed>

Wah?

Huh?

Oh. . .

Yah, damn straight!
