Hey all you 2000 gurus I am using Norton Ghost and I want to swap my 10GB HD for my 20GB HD. The 10GB has 2 partitions on it. I have used Ghost before but only on Win9X setups and never on a NT setup. I tried it and am getting "your pagefile is too small" errors. What gives? It's not urgent that I do this but I want the 20GB in this 'pooter. If I do this then I can set up my other P!!! :D

Have you tried booting from a floppy & running it from there?

Just looking at the norton site it says norton ghost 6.02 and prior can only support sector by sector copy for w2k. So copying a 10 gig to a 20gig will not work.

What version of ghost do you have?

Maybe you just need to upgrade from the norton site?

Looks like none of them work for dynamic partitions...

No Dynamic Disk support is currently a limitation. In those situations I use NTbackup. Do a quick installation and then just restore.

Power Quest's Drive Image 4 only works on Win2K Pro, it will not load on Server or Advanced Server.

SEE HOW LINUX HELPED RECOVER A DEAD NT HARD DISK
Few things are more frustrating than having critical data locked on a
hard drive that Windows refuses to recognize. In this edition of From
the Trenches, see how one network administrator used Linux to help save his data back to another Windows drive.

You need Ghost 2001. Boot of a floppy and access the CD. Run ghostpe.exe

Copy Disk to Disk.

Follow the on-screen stuff. It really is pretty simple but you need Ghost 2001.

Hmm.... I'm using 2001 right now and tried a trial version of 7.0 enterprise both with no luck (disk to disk won't recognise with NTFS it looks like). I'll give the restore trick a shot tomorrow. Thanks for the sugestions guys.

I don't get this. Ghost can't know anything about your page file because W2K isn't running.

Have you tried copying the partitions individually to your new disk?

Ill be doing this tonight, i got a 30 gig NTFS drive with win2k pro. got some sector issues, thus, i got a enw drive gonna ghost it over, and then send the IBM back. then when i get the ibm disk back again and get my money back ;)

Ill let you know how it goes. Im only doing one partition tho.

I have a feeling it was the smaller drive being a little dodgey. Had a lot of weird stuff going on with it "phantom partitions, NTFS going into Fat32 etc". It was just my gaming rig so nothing lost, BACKUP people. I think a trip down to the local puter shop is in order I "need" a nice shiny new HD now!

Thanks again for the sugestions and all the help
