View Full Version : Firefox CPU usage of 100%

Ever since Firefox got past version 1.0.x, it got slower.
Every webpage load registers à 100% CPU usage for a period of between 5 to 30 seconds.
When it does, everthing slows until the CPU usage gets released.
It's a known fact (aka bug, not a "feature").
Anybody got to fix that? It's really annoying and I'm just about to ditch Fx for Opera.
Nobody can live while waiting 10+ seconds everytime you click a link. Wayne??

Thanks

OS?

Desktop?

Window Manager?

Firefox theme?

Do you have "smooth scroll" enabled or disabled?

What does this produce?
ps aux | grep fire

What video card are you running? Does it have 2D accel running in X?

Why you still running FC3 man? Thats like running NT4.

Eh man, imagine some people run WinMe... Well part laziness, part don't feel like backing up half a terabyte of data, part if it ain't broken.... I installed FC4 on the wife computer though (in my defence...).

It's really not a new problem, just tolerated it for so long...
Installed Opera. Very sweet and fast. Smooth transition.
There are thousands of reports of this bug everywhere with the new installements of Firefox with no solution. (some suggestion to minimize memory consuption but no fix for CPU saturation). If they can't fix this, I don't have to use it.

Bought a Toshiba Satellite M70 on Boxing Day. Will try Ubuntu on it. People seem to have some easy success making everything work out of the box. (except winmodem, and I don't care; a modem in 2006 is like a 1,44 in diskette... useless).

Oh, one more thing, you could always install Dearpark and see if this issue has been resolved up-stream.

Remember that Canada, as Aussieland, have been part of the great Union Jack empire for much longer the the US traitors (joke), so our ways (language speaking) are similar. It's the Amouricanees that kept changing the spelling because they could not remember how to spell it. (still can't). :)
